Saison Avena

I bought Avena at The Drink Factory in Mons. So we can consider, all four ratings are from Belgium; but I am the first review. Avena might have more positive reviews if it could get bought in America because the fresh hops are more likely to appeal to the typical American palate.

I do give Deserveaux very good Overall Hugs, primarily because they are carrying on the Hainut farmhouse tradition and have made sustainable brewing an important part of their work.

But as for Avena... It Looks inviting, big generous head and leaves some lace. It Smells of tree fruit and a variety of grains and the hops become pungent the more I stick my nose in there. But the imbalance comes from the oils in the fresh hops just make this a difficult ale with dinner. I drank Avena at a Belgian restaurant and it distracted me from a very nice meal. Whereas a really good saison distracts me from a mediocre meal. Almost medium-mouthed.
