Tasted On: 04-11-2012
Freshness: Unknown
Packaging: Growler
Glassware: Perfect Pint
Purchased: Filled at Midtown, Nashville
Appearance is a murky, cloudy brown - obviously an unfiltered beer. Head is maybe a finger high and tan, with low retention and good lacing.
Aromas are malty and spicy, with hints of cinnamon, orange zest, dark bread, and oatmeal. Hop aromas are earthy.
Taste is malty sweet and zesty. Similar flavors as in the nose, with cinnamon, citrus/orange, nuts, and a little fruitiness. A spicy malt bomb, with only a trace of bitterness.
Mouthfeel is pretty chewy with a medium amount of carbonation. Finish is zesty and sweet.
Overall a curious and enjoyable beer from Calfkiller - I'd maybe call it a spicy unfiltered brown ale...but in any case it was tasty.
