Golden Spur is a crisp refreshing Belgian ale brewed to highlight the complexities of traditional Belgian Saison yeasts. A warmer fermentation increases the yeast’s natural phenolic & ester production – enhancing banana and clove flavors and imparting a slight tartness.

On tap at Enegren Brewing Company in Moorpark, CA.

Pours a hazy dark honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, chalk, spice, and earthy aromas. Taste is much the same with yeast and fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid flavors but I think the smell on this one is slightly better.

On tap at Library Ale House and served in a tulip glass.

A: Pours a hazy gold with a fine bubbled, 1/2" white head which fades to the rim and leaves spotty and clumpy lace behind.

N: Fruits and flowers combine with a pronounced bretty funk at first followed by tangerine and orange zest. Some yeasty notes present.

T: Biscuit yeast and peppery spice typical of the style. Some citrus and cloves with a faint banana on the finish.

M: Moderate carbonation, light body. Tangy and slightly sour. Dry and spicy. Slightly sweet also.

O: Enjoyable. Refreshingly light on a warm spring afternoon.

Had a few tasters of this at the brewery, and a friend purchased a whole 5 gallon keg for his home system, which we enjoyed several glasses of over poker.

A: The beer pours a soft gold color. Cloudy/hazy, with a healthy 2 inches of pillowy head.

S: Scents of bannana, clove & fruity esters from the yeast.

T: Mirrors the nose mostly, with clean malt sweetness throughout. Balanced fruit & citrus flavors with a very minor sprinkingly of sour acidity.

M: Not too dry, clean & crisp, nice quaff to it.

O: Nice Saison, not too complex, or simple, just balanced and refreshing, and another solid beer from Enegren. These guys are quickly becoming a local favorite, and their 1 year anniversary is just around the corner.
