Intentional deviation from the Golden Spur Saison, with dark malts added.
Had a taster of this at the brewery, alongside Golden Spur, and filled a growler to take camping as well over the weekend. It was a enjoyed by all, and was empty pretty quick too.
A: The beer pours a medium black tinge, with a beige head.
S: Interesting, kiss of coffee, lightly roasted malt, but also a kiss of clove, malt, and minerals.
T: Mirrors the nose mostly, with clean malt sweetness throughout. Some earthiness, caramel, mineral quality. The fruity twang/mild sourness of Golden spur barely registers at all, and it is still light & crisp as well, with some roast on the back end.
M: Light & dry, clean & crisp, with mild chocolate finish.
O: Good. While I wouldn't say it is exactly the same, you can tell this is a cousin beer, hehe. The blog posts from the brewers pretty much summed this up best "It smells and tastes almost exactly the same as Golden Spur, but in the finish you get a mellow chocolate & caramel roasted flavor" All true, and of course the color, is black rather then Gold.
