Dark Persuasion German Chocolate Ale

Sampling a chilled 12 oz can of this brew poured into a chalice / snifter type glass. Date stamp is 9/16/2021.
The beer pours a rich clear cola brown color with a fluffy beige head of 2 cm foaming up and fading slowly throughout the sampling. Ends up as one large wispy island and a sturdy edge layer.

The aroma is dark chocolate and coconut with hints of caramel or brown sugar. There are no hops here and the nose pretty much nails the german chocolate cake thing.
First sip reveals a light to medium body with fine tingly carbonation and a smooth texture. beer is lighter in body than I would have thought, but it all works pretty well on the physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some dark chocolate and a bit of caramel and toffee followed by a toasted coconut note. the toasted note lingers long after the swallow. I never get any hop hits on this beer and the ABV, while lower is hidden too.
Im glad to have tried this beer as I like German chocolate cake, but this could be overly sweet for some, and I would like to see a little more thickness on the body. A decent sweeter stout, but not amazing IMO.

N med to med-bold nose of chocolate, cherries, and coconut; definitely getting German chocolate cake; light roast; pretty nice
T chocolate, coffee, and roast come together w/ coconut and cherry undertones; tasty, and not overly sweet

O a nice drinker; good flavor for the relatively low abv; would have again

This beer comes closest to Old Peculier, IMO. slightly sweet and not as heavy as Guiness Stout. Malty and not bitter.

Rated 5-13-2024. This beer pours a dark brown with a tan head that lingers for a while with a slight amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet chocolate, vanilla and slight cherry and coconut. There is a pronounced bitterness in the middle and finishes with the carbonation that lingers throughout. Very good for what it is, but not great. BOD 3-4-2024.

 

Pour is a rich dark brown. Light head. Nose is chocolate plus some expresso coffee in the background. Taste is as advertised ... chocolate cake all around, even to the slightly bitterness you got from the frosting. It's not as sweet tasting as some reviews have stated, certainly some sugar is present but is far from other beers such as milk stouts. It makes an excellent desert beer. Well balanced and quite nicely balanced.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that a spotty lace. The scent had cocoa and coconut notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dark semi sweet chaocolate malt base with vanilla and coconut presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

 

Canned 4/27/23

We’re ending off the night with yet another beer from woemad’s third BIF box. I feel like I’ve actually heard of this beer before, but oddly enough the brewery itself doesn’t ring a bell. Oh well, let’s just get right into it

Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of frothy dark tan head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minumal lacing

The nose is definitely quite sweet but there’s a nice roasty character to balance it out. I’m picking up on aromas of milk chocolate, toasted coconut, marshmallow, black cherry, medium roast coffee, light almond, and burnt caramel

It’s pretty similar in taste, but a bit more in both directions of sweet and roasty. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting milk chocolate, sweet vanilla, raw coconut, brown sugar, molasses, burnt caramel, brownie batter, and light marshmallow. The swallow brings notes of raw coconut, brownies batter, almond, burnt caramel, vanilla frosting, marshmallow, light molasses, and black cherry

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a silky beer. Finishes neutral and quite sweet but turns roasty over time

This one is solid all around. A bit heavy handed on the sweetness at points but it ends up balancing itself out

A Tavour Treat. Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that lasts quite a while. Aroma is coconut and spices. Taste is chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon. Interesting flavor.

This was another beer that I picked up recently at the Total Wine in Puyallup, Washington when I was out that way not too long ago. First offering that I reviewed from Icicle and this had to be the richest and heaviest Sweet/Milk Stout that I've ever had as it was indeed, a German Black Forest cake made into liquid and put into a can.

If that's your cup of tea, you have a winner here from start to finish! Russet brown in hue with garnet seeping in around the edges, this was a pleasing brew from the get-go as it was topped off with a nice, mocha head that was full of big bubbles. Most of the lacing that remained in the form of layered, wavy sections near the middle of my glass. Lots of bitter chocolate, cacao nibs, and coconut in the nose as the vanilla, Pahto hops, bourbon, milk sugar, and rich chocolate cake came through in the taste once this fully warmed up. Every bit as full and luscious as it's description, all that was missing here was the frosting as this was a smooth sipper that only got better as it warmed.

A coffee-creamer mouthfeel and light carbonation ensured that this wouldn't feel *too* strong as the amount of alcohol was high for the style, but not for everything that was going on here. "#ICICLEBREWING" was written on the bottom along with an apparent canning date of 8/16 but no matter, this felt fresh and - dare I say - newly-baked/brewed? Lots going on here with the end result being a clear winner from Icicle, down to the fittingly artful label!

I’m reviewing this blind, so here goes. The color is dark, mahogany brown as the beer pours, and settles as almost black with a creamy tan head that is substantial. The nose is led by what smells like coconut to me, with an undercurrent of milk chocolate.

So I’m thinking barleywine (maybe) or stout (probably) for the style. Let’s see where the taste takes us.

The taste is very full and does feature coconut and a bit of cocoa, but there’s also a woody flavor and a bit of smoke. This reminds me a LOT of Palo Santo Marron, which I love - and I am digging this a lot. But not sure what it is.

There’s no alcohol at all on my palate as it warms, and I’m still getting that coconut and cocoa and wood, so I don’t think this is a “big/imperial/BA” beer. And there’s lots of leakage to mahogany brown on the edges as I drink the beer and look down the glass. Maybe it’s a brown ale with coconut added?

I’m flailing about a bit here, so I’ll go with a brown ale and put it solidly at 4.25. Let’s unwrap this and see what we’ve got.

And we have a milk stout modeled after German Chocolate Cake, which fits the coconut and cocoa notes I picked up. What a true pleasure it was to drink this beer.
