Framboise brewed for GABS festival in Melbourne, May 2014. Tried there on tap.
Pours a bright, vivid red colour. Head is pink, thick and lovely. Looks excellent.
Smells desserty and wonderful. Slight cider touch but masses and masses of berries. Sweet but slightly tart; smells like a good compote. Fantastic.
Taste is similar, leaning a little more on the tart side. Big fresh raspberry character blending with pineapple on the mid-palate and then finishing quite bitter and Belgian, with big spicy phenols and a touch of barnyard funkiness. Lots of berry all over it, but the bitterness at the back just ends a little uncomfortably.
Decent body, a little bit untextured which is surprising, but goes down fine.
So close to loving this beer. Needs a whisper more sweetness to overcome that finishing bitterness. Otherwise a fantastic tart but desserty brew.
