Ah, the Holiday season. Thanksgiving feasts. Christmas decorations galore. Menorahs being lit. Friends and family around a roaring fire. And maybe the unavoidable screaming match over politics or your sister’s latest idiot boyfriend. However you celebrate, the joy abounds.
That’s what Boughs of Barley is for: celebrating the season in all its glory. This brew started off big, then we made it massive. An Imperial Stout that spent a year aging in second-use Cognac barrels, you can expect a warming, roasty character and oakiness to dominate, with wisps of chocolate and sweet Cognac-laced vanilla notes coming through, especially on the finish.
Grab a bottle while it lasts, because this limited release will be gone by the time you give up on your New Year’s resolution!

Pulled this one out of my basement after 2 years.
It's still pretty boozy.
Maybe I should have given it another year??
Look: beautiful pitch black, opaque, with a nice head.
Smell:Lots of cognac, & raisins?
Taste: Hot, & boozy. Cognac forward.
I figured 2 years would mellow it a bit.
Feel:Heavy, & smooth, like an Imperial Stout should be.
Overall: It may be a bit hot, but I really like it.
Can't wait to try my 2018 Scotch barrel bottle.
Might give it a few more months.
