Another good BC ESB. Pours into the glass a typical coppery ESB colour with a thin, dense white head. Smell is malts with a good balance of hops in it, with hints of yeasty bread. Taste is well-developed, a good contrast beetween malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A bit of sour apple on the tongue.
This is a well done ES, up there in my books with Big River, and just a step below Fuller's.

Ever had a local favourite beer that disapeared for one reason or another. I used to love Shaftebury ESB for its English profile and session qualities. Sailor Hagar's stopped brewing their own beer about a year ago but lo and behold they now have Howe Sound Brewing in Squamish contract brewing for them and they produce and ESB that reminds me of the old Shaftebury version
A nice head and a chestnut colour set the stage for a traditional English ESB. The hops used are right for the beer(3 hops ) and the finish is flavourful and lasting. This is the best beer I have tasted from Sailor Hagar's and the irony is that is contract brewed. Only available at their beer and wine store and on tap at the pub.
