The latest from our HopLab series, Mandarina is a 5.3% pale ale that highlights the Mandarina Bavaria hop. This is a newer German variety that brings distinct tangerine and citrus flavors to the mix. We also added Halletauer Blanc to the kettle and Lemon Drop in the dry hopping. Together these two newer hop varieties bring subtle grape, lemongrass and passion fruit flavors to this very drinkable pale ale.

Two-day old, 32oz crowler, fairly aggressive pour into a snifter.
A - Somewhat hazy golden/orange. Don Ho-sized bubbles (tiny). Good finger and a half of fluffy head, receded in a couple of minutes to sides of glass, circle of thin foam remained in center the whole way down. Lacing at top of glass is moderate, nice.
S - Peaches, grapefruit
T - Peppery, some citrus
M - Some bite but pretty thin overall
O - Not bad, but not a whole lot going on here. (Guess that's the idea when showcasing a new hop?) Crushable and pretty tasty for a session pale.

Look - As with most of the Hop Lab series beers, this comes in a hazy golden type color.
Smell - A bright vibrant orange zesty type aroma. Some citrus as well as some grapefruit too
Taste - Mandarin/tangerine orange dominates the flavor profile, pithy/rind/zesty, tangy type bitterness on the back end
Overall - This is good but as far as the rest of the Hob Lab series beers I've had from Kane, I like this one the least. That tangy/semi sweet mandarin flavor is not the easiest on the palate in my opinion. However, it is an insanely crushable pale ale.

Poured from a growler that was filled 2 days earlier
A: Pours a hazy golden yellow. A thick finger of roam. Leaves great lacing.
S: First smell is like fresh orange juice some peach like sweetness
T: Juicy and fruity with a orange rind taste in the finish
MF: Smooth and silky. Great finish
O: A very juicy and tasty pale ale.

This is absolutely killer. Wonderful lacing. Real solid body. Good chew. Decently resinous. Lingers on the pallate for a bit. Juicy citrus hops with a bit of that classic German spiciness. Light sweetness on the finish. So easy to drink.

So, excited to try the newest hop lab beer. The nose is the highlight on this one. Smells of citrus hoppy goodness. Taste is not quite as impressive. It's good, but doesn't quite dazzle like Citra does. Happy I got the half growler of this and the full growler of Citra. Still, Kane continues to kill it.
