If Kane's biscotti flavored stout is met with tea time, then its also met with bedtime. This sugar laden, thirteen percent stout might be better suited as a nightcap rather than an afternoon break.
Their 2023 Chocolate Coconut Biscotti Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout pours inky and viscous with a dark espresso blackness before swooning the senses with a decadent scent of chocolate, whisky, vanilla, coconut, maple and cream in true pastry shop form. Not to be outdone, the taste doubles down on sweetness with brown sugar, molasses, condensed milk, caramel and toffee.
Sultry, savory and sweet, the middle palate invites all those dessert flavors from the early taste and rolls in the robust favors of espresso, slight smoky char, roasted walnut and savory complexities of port and sherry. Trailing into a rich and fudgy finish, the whisky spice of Eagle Rare, Blanton's, Russel's Reserve and Woodford Double Oaked bourbon barrels offer their own caramel, vanilla and coconut charm.
Full, velvety and pleasantly cloying, the Imperial Pastry Stout finishes sultry and sweet, saved for those after dinner digestives and totally replaces dessert.
