Continuing our path of fall gourd ales that aren't just “pumpkin pie spice mix” darker beers, we turn again to cuisine for spur. Here we deconstruct a “Zucca Ravioli” served in brown butter and sage topped with grated biscotti. Roasted butternut squash meat with butter added to the mash of a rich ale, fermented on anise cookies from our cohorts at The Flaky Tart and dry hopped with sage from our neighbors The Homestead at 7 Arrows. An autumn plate from the hills of Northern Italy interpreted as a Jersey harvest time ale. Drink Rav because there are always more spices on that shelf.

From 11/26/14 notes. On tap at the brewery in NJ.

Pours a hazy bright orange color with no head or carbonation evident. Lots of spices, sage, pepper, cinnamon, pumpkin, vegetables, and some cream. Medium body and low carbonation.

Overall it had a little too much spice for me to keep it from being great, but it was good. Guess that is what they were going for but I'd perfer more of a pumpkin taste.

A: A nice amber with a yellow tint with some good transparency, a tiny off white head at the top that left a little lacing around the glass.

S: Some butternut squash, spme slight sage coming through as well, on the tail end I get the sweetness from the cookie.

T: Up front a little stiffer than what I expected, the sweetness is throughout, and a nice spice on the tail end as well.

M: Light bodied, and a good amount of carbonation.

O: Overall a pretty tasty beer, refreshing and enjoyable, I am glad I was able to try this brew at a tasting in NJ.

Really unique, sublte spicing goes well with the warmth of the alcohol. A malt bomb and a real treat to drink.
