There is no denying the brilliance in the cathedral hull design from Boston when running around on the tidal brackish chop of the rivers of the Jersey Bayshore. Whether sitting with some friends casting lines, or yanking people around on tow ropes, their fun, easy-to-love pleasure for pleasure's sake have always had a home on docks around here. For our three point hulled New England workhorse, Whaler, we flanked a prow of Mosaic with Citra and Galaxy, pushing it through our decidedly mineral water with some Strata as the outboard. Drink Whaler because when something is this easy to enjoy, that's what should be done.

Canned 3/18/22. Poured at 52°. Opaque pale amber with enough clarity to see a sh!t ton of suspended particles that ultimately settle like a fine sludge in the bottom of the glass; tight white head; some minor cap retention; soapy lacing. Strong grapefruit nose up front, followed by a little skunk as beer warms. Bitter grapefruit rind; earthy hop almost skunky taste. Medium light body, moderate minus carbonation; no astringency. Overall a meh IPA; other than being unfiltered, why is this a NEIPA?; the suspended matter is a real turn off.

This one impressed me. I myself got grapefruit, pine, dank and earth on the nose. It followed through in the taste with slightly more tropical and fruity notes, but not overly so. Carbonation and feel is just about perfect. The lacing this left behind on the glass was phenomenal. A very well made NEIPA in my opinion.

Pours hazy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is mild and citrus. Taste is mild hoppy with some mild citrus notes, quite pleasant. Feel is good, right in line with a NEIPA. Smooth and easy drinking. Overall at only 6.5% it’s punching way above its ABV.

16 Oz can. Pours hazy golden, with tall, long lasting foamy white head. Aroma is of tropical fruit, citrusy hops and bready malt. Body is medium and crisp. Taste is similar to aroma. Delicious brew.

Appearance: Pours a rather cloudy goldenstraw with a one finger head that retains well and leaves a few dots behind

Smell: Bright and juicy with papaya, mango and pineapple tones

Taste: Pleasant tropical fruit tones of papaya and pineapple forward with the mango and orange developing; green onion makes an appearance, after the swallow; limited bitterness overall

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nicely presented NE IPA with a bit of onion in the back which was a surprise, initially

I actually prefer Carton’s original IPAs like Odub and its variants. But as a foray into the traditional NE IPAs, to me this is better than the other reviews I read. Definitely a straightforward example of the style. Nice aroma and juiciness in the taste. Enjoy it only being 6.5% ABV as I’ve been inundated with DIPAs and TIPAs lately. Refreshing beer!

5th Review. This NE IPA falls short for me. Perhaps too simple, like a Boston Whaler?
a) Look is great, another lace, slash, completely cover the glass all the way down, over a lasting film and haze body.
s) Melon, white fruit flesh. Unripe Mango.
t) Warms a bit, get better as it warms but too fruity for me. An OJ (dont drink it), chalky, cardboard grain back.
f) sharp, astringent, balancing the fruit.
o) Not refreshing enough for me, and neither is OJ.
