Highlander Weiss’s are about meeting light zippy wines on a level playing field. These paths originating in that thinking are what makes the project so interesting. Pleasant acidity, crisp body, aromatic complexity and fruitiness integrated through fermentation thoroughly enough to be both subtle and persistent: notions, rather than flavors. This content to be pleasing rather than over blown is entirely captured in the Swedish notion of lagom. With Lagom we look to structure that Scandia feeling of all being well and satisfied on a cool evening by a fire with bright flavors in your head by pushing Highlander Weiss way up north with sea buckthorn and licorice. Drink Lagom and content.

This Highlander Weiss from Carton pours bright, deep gold to pale amber. Translucent with a slight chill haze. Some visible carbonation and a very fluffy, rocky and tightly packed white head that settles down with a lot of lacing on the sides of the glass.

Really pretty aroma. Some vinous white wine notes. Dry, crackery wheat aromatics. Slight lacto cheesiness, which is pleasant and adds some complexity to the aroma.

The flavor is moderately tart with some lemon juice acidity. The finish is very long and defined by lingering acidity and snappy, crisp, dry and crackery flavor.

Very light bodied on the feel and prickly carbonation.

Another wonderful kettle sour from this Carton line. An absolute summer crusher or really just an everyday supplement for white wine.

Canned on 12/18/2019. Poured into a Carton pint glass. It pours a bright, clear, pale golden-honey color with a creamy, bright white cap and thin film of lacing. Lots of tiny bubbles ascend the glass. It has a pleasant floral smell with notes of anise. The taste opens with acidic lemon and and grape over a dry, crackery base. There is also an appealing saltiness and hints of licorice and red wine grapes. It's fruity and not overly sour. The mouth feel is spot on for a Berliner: lite and crisp with lively carbonation, and at 3.9% ABV it's superbly drinkable. I'm not familiar with Sea Buckthorn but this is a very tasty beer and quite refreshing. For a low ABV beer it packs a lot of flavor and is a pleasure to drink.

1st Review. Added 12-20-19.
Carton - sends you to google - (wish they had public wifi here) - to look up....
Lagom (just-right, simple-perfect), a swede idiom.
Highlander Weisse (Berliner Weisse - once German's most popular light beer often flavored with essence in bowl shaped glasses)
Sea buckthorn leaves and flowers are used for treating arthritis, gastrointestinal ulcers, gout, and skin rashes caused by infectious diseases such as measles. Northern Europe and mountainous central Asia. AKA Seaberry.
So this sea berry brew rises to the best of the Carton Weise and wild canon.
Thrilled to be the 1st reviewer.
The strength of this light ABV brew is intense for little 3.9% ABV.
