Notes from 11.22.21, just to coincide with the canning date listed: 09.24.21.

I've seen this around and finally took a chance. Supposedly a different single hop used every year, but the Tighthead website lists Hallertauer Blanc again.

Poured into my tall Becher.

L -- Hazy, yellow-gold with a firm, creamy, persistent white head.

S -- Light citrus and earthiness -- even mustiness -- from hops. Vaguest of bready malt fighting to be recognized.

T -- Resiny, musty, earthy, and spicy hops with a touch of citrus fruit. Doesn't assault the palate, but immediately screams American Pale Ale. Very light bready to grainy malts holding the backbone. Aftertaste is light citrus with bitter resins.

M -- Mouthfeel is lightly syrupy with a light-medium body.

O -- Interesting that Halertauer Blanc is a Cascade derivative grown in Bavaria. I'd hate to think Helles will soon be another APA clone -- I'd miss the rich, bready malts accented by mellow, spicy hops.

This "session lager" is a flavorful, easy drinker, but it's really a poor version of APA and only a vehicle for Northwest Pacific-style hops. The malt is only here for a little balance.

Served in a shaker at HB Jones, the beer is a chill hazed medium gold. The white head is incredibly sticky and just coats the glass.

Aroma of grains and grains.

The beer is crisp with some sweetness. The hops add a bit of bite with citrus notes. Grainy, biscuits, and a hint of tropical fruit all balanced with a nice dollop of bitterness.

The mouth is crisp with medium thickness and excellent carbonation.

I think this would be a great beer to pair with pizza or a burger.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the tap room.

This hoppy lager was brewed in part to showcase the new-ish hop varietal Hallertau Blanc. I'm game. It pours a clear auburn-brass topped by a finger or so of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises grass, mild white grape skins, light sweet biscuit, and a hint of candied grapefruit peel. The taste brings in more of the same, the grass and biscuit holding the van. Near the finish, things just melt away, leaving a grassy, somewhat piney flavor to linger by itself for a moment before everything disappears. The body is a rather light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry, crisp finish. Overall, a solid IPL-ish beer, one that seems to show off that varietal pretty well.

Tasted in a snifter from draft at Tighthead Brewing Company on December 5, 2019. A session lager made to showcase the new German hop variety "Hallertau Blanc". This beer features a light, grainy sweetness with a subtle but complex floral-fruity hop bouquet.
