Served on-tap in a shaker pint glass at the brewery's tasting room.
Beginning a night of trivia title-defending with this year's ReplicAle, a saison, the brewery-decided variable being the addition of fruit, spice, or dry-hopping. Tighthead chose to dry-hop with Hull Melon and Mandarina Bavaria. Let's do this: It pours a mostly clear golden-straw topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises sourdough, light tangelo, mild perfume, a drop or two of honey, and a touch of grass. The taste brings in more of the same, though, for me, the yeast and the hops nearly cancel each other out, leaving a relatively clean pale ale with some grassy hop notes and a sourdough-tinged finish: No special dry-hop notes, no Belgian yeast notes to speak of. Weird. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a nice enough beer, but one whose saison character and dry-hop character don't really show up to play very often. I still generally enjoy the beer, but find it almost frustratingly plain for what it is.
