From the can Category 4 has nice clarity, a firm beige head, and a rust colored body. Good looking. Bitter orange, resinous pine, burnt caramel, and a sweetish nuttiness on the nose. A wallop of coniferous flavor on the palate. Medium bodied with a sturdy malt backbone, Due South's Red IPA is good, but has a pronounced bitterness that detracts from its overall drinkability. Semi-dry, astringent finish. It's a tasty enough beer, and packs a bit of a punch at 7.7 percent ABV, yet feels rather workmanlike.

Without doubt, I wasn't expecting this! Category 4 IPA is great... IPA are definitely not my style, but this red ipa really hit that hidden spot. The notes of caramel and wood are all over, but the really important player on this beer is the nutty profile that makes it more appealing for my taste.

Despite the description on here this is a RED ALE described as such by the brewery
poured on tap into pint glass
A: dark Amber also has a red hue pillowy creamy looking head a little bit of an opaque body
S: lots of sweet caramel malts and a lot of floral earthy hops
T: nice big floral and slightly fruity hops with a big dose of maltiness with that sweet doughy bread taste
M: medium to fuller the hoppiness and bite of them linger
O: very good red ale remecscent of nugget nectar the hops linger on the palate long after you finished sipping

Great red IPA. Reminds me a little of Hop Head Red from Green Flash.
