Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
An "India Brown Ale".

Oh me oh my… what did we do?
We fired up the skillet to 420°, tossed in a sizzling concoction of 2-row, Wheat, Pale Chocolate, Cara-Brown and Midnight Wheat, then added in a hefty dose of hop hash and other dank-ish-ish-ish fixin’s to scatter, smother and cover this baby all the way.
Resiny, citrusy hops spice up the rich chocolate and caramel notes the malt brought to the mix, making this platter slide down the counter at 60 IBU’s.
Grains: 2-Row, Wheat, Pale Chocolate, Cara-Brown, Midnight Wheat
Hops: Mandarina Bavaria, Bravo, Hop Hash
ABV: 6.2% IBU’s: 60

a: the color is a mixture of murky brown, dark ruby red, and light purple. it pours a real nice 3 finger solid off-white head that does not seem to be fading any time soon. a real nice looking beer

s: not quite what i was expecting right away. its juicy upfront: pineapple and light mango. behind that is a sweet caramel malt background with some brown sugar and a nice nutty note. there is also something kind of earthy/incense like in here as well. a very faint touch of roasted malt at the end

t: theres an interesting mix of flavors here that seem to be clashing a bit for dominance. i'm picking up a big punch of sweet caramel malt, slightly bitter chocolate, and a nice nutty flavor in here. there is also a noticeable piney bitterness in here as well. the tropical fruit that i picked up in the nose do not exist in the flavor, and while the initial flavor does seem to be sweet, the beer finishes with the bitter. a bit too bitter for a brown

m: solid, medium mouthfeel. carbonation level seems a tad high as well

o: the appearance of this beer is amazing, i wish i enjoyed the rest as much. its a bit too bitter for a brown, and is lacking the malt depth that i like from the style. i'm sure many people will enjoy it, due to the hops, and its not a poorly made beer. for me, its just lacking that malt depth and the transition of flavors is not quite subtle enough

L: caramel color, lacing tan head
S: flowery hops with a hint of maltiness
T: unbalanced, the malt and hops don't seem to compliment each other
F: good mouthfeel, slightly bitter finish
O: I wish it tasted more like it smelled

12 oz bottle, with enjoy before dating on the label. (12/28/15)

Pours meium brownish amber, medium haze. Lasting medium khaki cap, goes to a well developed web of window pane type lacing, nice lookin brew.

Roasty, malted up nose with a hopped up back note

Flavorful and hopped up brown ale, with a hint of smoke, roasty malts, milk chocolate, solid stuff, nice brew...well worth a try.

this is an interesting beer. a bit of toffee and chocolate on the nose and tongue. almost like a porter light . except for the hops. resiny and citrusy hops dominate, with the right amount of bitterness. unique and very good.

Mahogany brown in color with a touch of cloudiness. There's an inch of densely packed creamy beige head. The aroma is of caramel with just a hint of piney hops. The taste is a bit more piney hop forward and overshadows the caramel malt flavor. I would consider this more of a brown IPA than a brown ale infused with hops. The body is a bit smoother and less sticky than an IPA, but the hop bitterness pricks the tongue and throat.

From a 12 oz bottle.
Very clear brown body topped by a fairly weak head.
Smells and tastes just like one should expect given the brown IPA labeling; that is, there's more and darker malt than an IPA while retaining the high hop load. Hops won on one dimension however ... this is moderately bitter.

O: ESB meets IPA.

Poured into a sniffer. Pours light brown with a one and a half finger white head that recedes slowly leaving two inches of lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, roasted malts, and resiny hops. Taste is roasted malts, brown sugar, a touch of toffee, and grassy hops that leave a slightly oily finish. Medium body and medium carbonation with no aftertaste.
This is an interesting take on the hopped brown ales. Solid brown ale with an uncommon hop that actually works well with the malts. The hops work to balance with the malt in a really successful way. Tasty choice.

Looks like a brown. Smells (or lack thereof) like a brown. Must be a brown... or is it?

Doesnt taste very malty. Tastes very hoppy. Notes of bacon and pine. Light body. Great carbonated fizz. Very well balanced. If my eyes were closed I would almost think it a pale ale or ipa. Not a typical brown. Tasty though.

Sweetwater Brewing Co. "Hash Brown"
12 fl. oz. can, coded "11/06/16 and sampled on 09/12/16
$2 @ Acme, Media, PA

Notes: Nice enough color, deep russett brown. Seems hazy (ah, I see, it's "can conditioned"). Fluffy head of khaki holds remarkably well. Nice lacing. Aroma displays piney, resinous, and delicately citrusy hops over a chocolatey and nutty malt base. In the mouth it's somewhere between medium and light-medium in body. Moderately crisp. The flavor is fuller than the aroma suggests with much more graininess to the malt, and a more solid hop attack with includes a note of orange. Solidly bitter but balanced. Dry finish with more of the citrusy notes rising. In the end it's not as dank or resinous as I thought it would be, but perhaps that has to do with age, although it's still within its "BIEB date".

Surprisingly large beige head with excellent retention. Brew is a lively and fairly clear honey brown.

Grapefruit pulp and peel, pine, resin, brown sugar, and caramel on the nose.

Flavor follows. Toasty malts, grapefruit juice and peel, pine, grass, and lighter caramel grains. Not oversweet.

A touch watery, but it's easy drinking.

This is a lovely if plain hoppy brew. Makes a great lunch beer.
