Very strong head production for the style, and retention is quite good. Body is a nutty, reddish brown, dark but translucent in thinner portions of the glass.
Nose carries impressive Flanders Red notes, with massive waves of tannins and vinegar, complemented by red wine, oak, brown sugar, caramel, grapes, vanilla, raisins, and dates. Fantastic.
Very sour on the palate, more so than a straight forward Flanders Red, but not at all unexpected given the description. Tannins, leather, tea, grapes, raisins, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, oak.
Fairly fizzy on the palate, but not unexpected given the barrel treatment and assortment of wild yeast and bacteria. Strong puckering factor, even for an experienced sour drinker.
This is otherworldly. If you've ever wanted a Flanders Red that is far more sour, but yet somehow retains the complexity, depth, and nuance, this is your beer.
