[Suggested Glassware: Lager Glass]

The pour was a clear light cranberry red with an average (1-2 finger) light tan frothy head that diminished to a thin film with a small collar and had fair sheets of lacing.

The aroma right off was full of an abundance of chestnuts, that along with a bit of oats and a note of raspberry but not much else.

The taste was very lightly sweet with a light hint of raspberry and candi sugar at first, and then became mildly tart with a overwhelming nutty presence and a slight bitter ending. The flavor lasted a decent while with the slightly tart fruity taste and harsh bitterness lingering on.

Mouthfeel was light in body and dry in texture with a somewhat lively carbonation.

Overall I find all Gluten-free brews to be seriously lacking in on way or another. Although I guess as the style goes this one is OK, it was however too overly nutty (having almost a sickening scent) but the tartness of the raspberry did help some. I have come to the conclusion that I will never become a fan of Gluten-free brews...

Pours a handsome mahogany amber in the Duvel tulip. Modest carbonation in the glass, though fairly spritzy on the tongue. The raspberry aroma is quite distinct. I see from the label that chestnuts are listed first in the list of non-barley ingredients. It is also brewed with oats, sorghum, and cane sugar. I still think there should be a category for "non-traditional" brews, i.e. no malted barley or wheat.

The first taste is kind of shocking. This is the mustiest, woodsy beer I've had in a long time. It turns out to be fairly drinkable, just totally peculiar. Rather biter after a couple more sips. Like what tree bark must taste like. Thin bodied and a little harsh in the aftertaste. I am not up on whether chestnuts add much in the way of fermentables, or if it's just to be weird. The overall effect is not very nutty, it's more like soybeans. The tart raspberry flavor is the best quality.

From the 22 oz bottle.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- A deep clear reddish copper color with a half a fingers worth of head. No head retention and no lacing.

Smell- Faint aroma of oats and nuts.

Taste- Earthy, nutty flavor with tart raspberry notes.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Slightly dry finish.

Overall- This beer could be better with some tweaking. It needs a little more raspberry flavor it just wasn't strong enough for a beer called a "Raspberry Ale".
