Solar Wind IPA is the latest beer in our Smog Days IPA series and features Waimea, Simcoe, and Cascade hops. At 6.2% it’s highly drinkable and bursting with tangerine, stone fruit and berry flavors.
Solar Wind shines forth with a full, round aroma of citrus, stone fruit and berries. A dominant character of tangerine is bolstered by plum and mixed berry fruit to create a dance of delicate fruit character supported by a balanced snap of bitterness that brings you in for more.

Picked up this on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. Online description read “Solar Wind shines forth with a full, round aroma of citrus, stone fruit and berries. A dominant character of tangerine is bolstered by plum and mixed berry fruit to create a dance of delicate fruit character supported by a balanced snap of bitterness that brings you in for more.” Hops mentioned were Waimea, Simcoe and Cascade.
Poured a light-to-medium amber clear color with four fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect layered spiderweb lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled tangerine, candied orange, stone fruit, mixed berry, plum, pine, menthol, herbal, lemon zest and caramel. For mentioned hops, more Waimea than the other two, but Cascade next and finally Simcoe. More berry and stone fruit from the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste was not as good as the nose. In order got spoiled tangerine rind, candied orange, stone fruit, mixed berry, Simcoe, Cascade, bitter pine, black pepper, Waimea, menthol, herbal, lemon zest, caramel and wet grass. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was very good overall. (Overall - 3.75)
