a pretty average beer in its current form, although it sounds like they are still working on dialing this one in. its raison colored, fairly clear, and with a lazy off white half inch of head on the glass. aroma is spicy belgian yeast with notes of clove and white pepper, as well as come candied sweetness. i dont smell a ton of rye here. the flavor features a pale rye dry spicy element, still somewhat subtle and lacking that rustic appeal that sometimes comes with it, especially with saison yeast, but here the yeast is more belgian, red apple and banana fruitiness to it, less of the old world funk and farmhouse appeal, although its clean in the end of this, and is not a bad choice at all for a more tidy saison type. this isnt as dry though as i like saison to be, still some molasses brown sugar sweetness to this from the darker malts, and it covers up the finish i was expecting from the rye. carbonation is also a little down compared to what i like and expect in the style, although i do like the body this has, soft and bigger. i taste less wheat than normal too for the style, the malt aspect just is sweet to me, maybe a little earthy, but somewhat incomplete. a work in progress, i expect this to be better next time around...
