Poured from a pint can into a tulip.
Pours hazed amber with a decent head and good lacing.
Solid aromas of caramel malt, toasted grain, and hazelnut.
The brew hits the tip of the tongue with a burst of caramel malt sweetness that quickly subsides into a drier second act with hazelnut, earthy hops, and hints of dark fruit and melon. The Vienna malts are very present and pleasant here.
The brew is solidly medium bodied but well balanced and well-carbonated. Very drinkable
Overall, I'm on the fence whether this is really an ESB, but it's a tasty beer.

Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy, bright deep orange color with a medium off-white head. SRM of around 14 (12-16) depending on the light. (3.75)
Aroma: Toasted caramel, brown sugar and nuts with a wave of toasty cocoa underneath that wipes through. Only traces of flower. Strong syrup and chocolate covered sponge cake. (3.75)
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with mild flavors of caramel, brown sugar, and hints of toasty cocoa. A mild amount of flowering and caramel bitterness. A cleaning melon comes through. Clean and relatively light and dry.
Feel: Lighter-bodied. Low carbonation as expected for the style. Finishes rather dry and watery on the palate. Faint caramel bitterness.
Compared w/ Schells' German Bock 3/28/20: Pours a lighter color. Lighter aromas. More restrained toasty caramel, toffee, cocoa, and bread. Less earthy nuts and wet caramel. Overall, lighter and dryer, and not as earthy.
Overall: An okay attempt at an ESB. A little lighter, less malty, and dryer than I would have expected. Very little hops, but the malts are also restrained so it leaves a little watery feel to this beer. (Final Rating: 3.60)
