Pours a glowing ruby-orange with a foggy translucency. Head is a couple fingers of off-white foam. Aroma is caramel, toffee, toast, bread, and spicy hops. It features mostly sweet notes that are balanced out well by late spicy and grassy hops. Inviting. Flavor profile is spicy and grassy hops layered alongside toffee, molasses, caramel, fig, and raisins. A little bread and toast slips through, further developing the balanced profile. Mouth feel is medium in thickness. Texture is crisp, albeit a soft crisp. Overall, balance is great offering up a subtle pop of sweetness before balancing it out.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 16oz can.

Canned 2024/08/01
Pours a big foamy fizzy almost 2 finger off-white head with moderate retention, little lacing, hazy auburn to copper color

Nose fair sweet biscuity toasted malts, a hint of a sweet candy like but not caramel, bread crust and toasted malts, light fruity esters

Taste more malts, semi sweet toasted malts, biscuity bready, bread crust, just a touch of a caramel like malt, hints of fruity esters, light herbal floral hops, light bitterness, dry finish, a bit more bitterness and hops getting a hint spicy

Mouth is med bod, med to a bit higher carb

Overall not bad, in the Marzen style for sure, and fairly enjoyable, not overly sweet caramel candy like so that's good

A great beer. A bit of a hybrid with festbier but tastes great and easy to drink

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 07/31/24

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy dark copper color, with some pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is pretty nice, malty, hoppy, bready, slight toasty. The taste is also very nice, malty, hoppy, with some breadyness, pretty nice toastyness. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a pretty tasty beer.

Canned on 8/9/23; consumed on 11/6/23

Pours a foggy copper hue capped with two fingers of near-creamy, off-white foam; good head retention leaves a half-finger of cap, frothy collar, and moderate array of webby lacing spread around the walls of the glass.

Aromas of brown toast open against a mineralic spritz, with undertones of sweet bread and caramel malts extending over the middle of the bouquet as edges of grain silo and slight, fruity lager yeast close.

Taste offers caramel malts and hint of brown sugar cut with a heavier minerality over time; black tea accents ease vague florality over the mid-palate as brown bread crust and the slightest roast grazes the back end of the profile.

Mouthfeel brings a medium-light body and a spritzy fluff of moderate-high carbonation, dispersing to flaky crispness over the mid-palate as a level dryness settles, aiding a wavering 'snap' through the finish.

Clean execution of bready depth with a pleasantly integrated caramel malt edge; trends sweet at times, but still a reasonably maintained take on the style.

Purchased from the dabc for $3.50 no canning date

Poured at fridge temp into a dimple mug.

Pours a solid and hazy amber with a loose head with big bubbles. Settled into a thin ring. A tad disappointed over head retention, but it has a nice caramel glow when held up to the light. 4

Not a ton of aroma off the glass (likely my sniffer) but I get some balanced but leaning toward sweet malt and pleasant breadiness off the can. 4

Sweet malt, some caramel, darker bread crust and light hop earthiness. Classic comes to mind. 4.25

I think this a Goldilocks mouthfeel, just right carbo, softness and fullness, just right all around. 4.5

Overall this may be a new favorite of mine and I'll absolutely have to get my hands on another one to see if my initial review holds up. As an additional side note, this year's version at 5.8% abv also feels like a sweet spot. 4.25
