16 oz. can filled exactly four years ago pours an opaque dark brown with small mocha head that vanishes quickly with no lacing. Smells of roasted malts and coffee. Aroma has cocoa, coconut, lactose, and vanilla. The only bitterness is from the coffee flavor, otherwise sweet, but not like donuts. Body is full, with a slick mouthfeel and boozy finish. Still decent after four years, but I wish it had more bitterness to balance all the sweetness.

Pours an effervescent mahogany/ ebony with one finger of mocha colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Coffee, vanilla

T: Follows the nose, plus chocolate, vanilla & coconut & dryness up front. Dryness, a little donut sweetness, vanilla, coconut as the beer warms. Finishes dry, rich with coconut, vanilla & coffee

MF: Medium body/chewy with slight carbonation

Nice Imp Pastry Stout

Thanks(?) to Roy_Hobbs for this one from assault on me during NBS BIF #15. 16oz can (dated 1/14/22, I think. The dot printing is very difficult to read.) poured into 14oz teku. Poured the solid black color expected of the style, with over an inch of light brown head that had good retention and almost no lacing.

A light lactose sweetness had the front of the nose, with some soft malts behind. The cocoa nibs, vanilla, coffee, and coconut weren't immediately discernible. Sadly, after a few moments the coffee took control of the situation and would not relinquish it.

On the tongue, the other aspects showed up, but were still utterly dominated by the terrible burnt coffee flavor. Throughout the beer I never really got much cacao or coconut, and only a touch of vanilla.

The body was fairly typical for the style; full (although perhaps a touch lighter than the big fullness of the style), smooth, and had a sweet finish.

Drinkability was a bit of a chore, but a lot of that was due to the 16oz format. A 12oz can would be a much better choice for these types of beers.

Overall, not terrible, but not a brew I enjoyed. YMMV, but I cannot recommend.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a finger high tan head that gradually settled down and eventually left a very large patch of light tan bubbles that covered most of the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of coffee beans and coconut are present in the nose along with hints of cocoa nibs.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has lots of flavors of vanilla along with underlying notes of coco nibs, coffee, and vanilla. There are slight bits of sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and rather smooth on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This would make for a good breakfast beer during the morning when tailgating for a football game as it is like a hybrid of drinking a stout and eating a glazed donut. It does a rather good job at masking most of the alcohol from the taste.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 9/12/19.

Pours an opaque dark brown, with a half inch foamy head and soapy, foamy lacing. Aromas of coffee, coconut, malt, chocolate, cocoa, some lactose, light vanilla. Flavors of coffee, malt, chocolate, the vanilla steps up, some lactose, some cocoa, lighter coconut than the nose. Smooth, creamy, a very good full body, well carbonated.

Can’t say this made me think of a donut, but it’s good and all the add- ins show pretty well. The coffee is the star, though. Great aroma. Worth a try.

Great beer especially warmed up at 50°+.
Dark chocolate brown 4F head in a Stone RIS glass.
Mellow coffee and chocolate aroma.
Smooth MF.
The taste stands out with warming: milk chocolate, instant cocoa, and coffee.
Excellent beer.

16oz can, date stamped 01/14/20. Black bodied stout with a tall & foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet with chocolate, coconut, coffee, and vanilla. Sweeter flavors but the coffee addition cuts it nicely; chocolatey cocoa nibs, sweetened coconut, lactose, vanilla, and faint roasted malt and earthy hops. Full and creamy body, alcohol is well concealed, sweeter finish. Sweet but good. Again, the coffee helps this one a lot.
