Wet-hopped pale ale with fresh Mosaic, Citra, Cascade, and Simcoe hops.
We used nearly 400 lbs of ultra fresh whole cone Citra, Cascade, Mosaic, and Simcoe on this limited batch of our first ever Wet-Hopped Pale Ale, Harvest Haul.
Fresh hops are processed the day of harvesting to maintain more flavor and aroma than normal pelletized hops. This can only be done once per year - on harvest day - which means we can only brew this once per year! We’re picking up notes of melon, Juicyfruit gum, bright dankness, sweet orange peel, ripe papaya, and mango.
A typical IPA would have 2lbs per barrel of pellet hops, but knowing how special these whole cone hops were, we opted to use 12 lbs per barrel! If you’re wondering how we had space in our kettle for these hops - we didn’t! Unlike a normal hot-side hop addition, we had to use our mash tun!
This was a fun, special project that took a lot of coordination, planning and cooperation between our production team and our hop supplier.

Received from @fbarber in the NBS BIF #14. Canned on 10/21/2021. Poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a hazy, golden honey color with a substantial, creamy, milk-white head and sudsy lacing. It's highly effervescent with myriad tiny bubbles ascending the glass. The nose is tart, slightly sour lemon and grapefruit with just a hint of tropical fruit in the background. It's dank and the opens with a blend of pineapple and tart lemon. There is also a hint of onion and ripe melon. Its mouth feel is crisp and dry with fairly lively carbonation, and with an ABV of 5.9% it's sessionable. Overall, Harvest Haul has a lot going on. It nicely balances dry, tart citrus and sweeter tropical fruit. It's a very nice APA from an excellent brewer.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Received from @FBarber in NBS BIF #14 shenanigans. Dated 10/21/21.
Pours moderately hazy yellow-amber with a fairly small head. Smell is somewhat mild, mostly citrus, fair amount of resin.
Taste is more interesting that the aroma. Lots of tropical stuff, I can see why @Beersnake1 is braying about mangoes. I get kind of a candied pineapple, the sweetness comes across mostly as fruit juiciness to me, and there is a moderate bitterness, that I might describe as mango skin.
Mouthfeel is light, clean, dry, moderately effervescent. Overall, this is pretty good. Wouldn't hesitate to have more.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice opaque yellow/light orange with a nice amount of white head. The nose is really nice - lots of tropical fruit. Mostly mango, papaya, and guava. The mango really dominates on this one. I can taste fresh mango when I smell it. Amazing! A bit of pineapple starts to come through. Honey and a touch of citrus peel.
The taste nicely follows the nose. Very fruit-forward. Lots of mango and pineapple, gummy bears, orange creamsicle, and a bit of grapefruit peel. The latter is very light - this is definitely dominated by a light sweetness. Very refreshing and crisp.
Overall, this is a wonderful pale ale that is super easy to drink. Refreshing and light. A definite winner for me.

Watermelon, guava, mango, Hawaiian Punch, light pale malt in the finish. Easy drinking, light bodied. Slight sweetness up front, countered by a moderate hop bitterness. Showcases the hop flavors well, a more assertive wet hop APA. Easily the best one i've found locally, after searching hard for the last decade. Here in Chicago, we're not exactly awash in wet hops like the PNW...
