Right in time for warmer weather, the summer of '13 opens with a highly refreshing and well crafted taste from the Country Boys that's sure to be a crowd pleaser for summers to come.
Right Good Raz opens with a firm gold appearance with peachy highlights. There's just the simple suggestion of something fruity in the beer's hue. But its semi-firm cap of off-white froth holds on until the second half of the glass where its foam collapses into the glass. Light on lace, it's evident that the berry pectin has gotten the best of the beer.
This is a wheat beer first and foremost- and its initial taste and aromas affirm the base character with firm wheaty body, pleaslantly tart acidity, and a common fruit-spice interplay even without the fruit additions. But its those raspberry taste and scent that gives the beer a unique tart berry-like presence that delivers all the brightness of the fruit but without its associated sweetness. Tart fruit plays out with the support of mild clove and mint, but with also a velvety vanilla texture that eases the would-be grain feel.
Its a firm fruited ale that's a little short sighted in its raspberry additions. With its restrained character, the raspberry identity is easly over-looked. But it is the beer's simple elegance with the fruit that makes the more "Wheat Beer" flavors keep its much needed command of the beer front and center.
