i think this is my new favorite beer from urban family! they have taken their already impressive blind tyger and aged it in gin barrels with blackberries, its a total winner. the juniper aspect seems to be magnified almost exponentially by the gin barrels, which add a cool woody softness to this, but its all about the juniper, as fresh and natural as it is in the base beer, just heaps more of it, really appealing to me, but you have to like juniper for sure. the blackberries color the beer quite a lot, a nice frosted violet appearance here, and they add some cool sweetness and jammy berry character, it doesnt overtake the juniper but is completely compatible with it, a new flavor combination to me, but a highly successful one. this tastes quite a bit more yeast driven than the original, more bretty, developed and funky, but still with some farmhouse saison type yeast element too. wood and a little pucker to finish, and a whole heap of juniper that makes it seem super clean in the latter stages. what a cool flavor evolution, and what a good idea. this marks a major upshift in quality for these guys in my experience, definitely some of their very best work to date!
