Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice dark brown/black color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger tan head, which leaves some nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, hoppy, with a nice touch of chocolate, toffee, a nice touch of vanilla, licorice, nice touch of bourbon, some coconut. The taste is really nice, malty, hoppy, with some pretty nice chocolate/toffee, very nice touch of vanilla, licorice, very nice touch of bourbon, some coconut, really nice sweetness. Full Body, ABV is hidden pretty well, a pretty nice complex brew, a pretty nice sipper. Overall, this one is pretty taste. Nice to see it around here.

2017 vintage, and i obviously sat on this one way too long, a total shame, and a beer that i had such high hopes for, probably was awesome years ago, but i let it slumber too long and its gone off, bigtime bacterial infection at this point, sour and fruity and with vinegar and roast clashing on the palate, sort of red winey to me, tried to keep going back to it hoping it would change, but this ended up down the grain after a few disappointing sips. i think most beer nerds are coming to the realization that these things just dont hold on forever like we all thought they might when cellaring became a common thing, and this is on me, not on elevation, i have no doubt this was once awesome, as the original oil man is legendary and these variants had to be good. still some bourbon to this, vanilla and smoke, but the acid part just destroys it overall, very little coconut left. the best i can say for this is how it looks, frothy thick creamy headed and shiny black in the glass with no sediment at all, looks incredible. i hope they make this again so i can try it as intended, lesson learned, and unfortunately i have very little hope for the coffee edition i still have a bottle of. i wont score this too poorly really, as most of why this is bad is probably my mistake. it was awful, but i know it was once delicious...

750 ml bottle into a snifter. Bottled 1/14/19, had 6/28/19.
Pours an oily looking dark brown, opaque, with a half inch head of darker foam and tight, darker lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa, bourbon, some coconut, coffee, toffee, some vanilla, light tobacco and licorice, some char. Flavors are similar- roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, some coconut, caramel, vanilla, cocoa, smoke, some molasses, light licorice, a little tobacco. There were a few flecks of coconut in the glass. I hope that’s what it was. Smooth, a good full body, well carbonated but had a slight fizzy feel.
I get the coconut, but it is pretty light overall. Really good aromas and flavors otherwise, well balanced and expressive. Very enjoyable even with the lack of coconut.

LOOK * super dark black - like tar - pours like motor oil - very low carbonation - not much of a head or lacing but common for a barrel aged beer
SMELL * COCONUT for sure and some chocolate - some woodiness - slight bourbon
TASTE * very boozy with some hops - rich chocolate and loads of coconut - very sweet and syrupy - some vanilla notes - quite a bit of charred oak from the barrel and charred grains in the brew - very rich and complex - very flavorful
FEEL * oily - really not much carbonation but was expected/typical - medium bodied but was hoping for fuller
OVERALL * I really enjoyed this version of Oil Man - Original Oil Man was amazing, and I thought this was as well - the COCONUT on the label definitely describes what's on the inside - it isn't too overpowering as it is still balanced nicely, but there is a lot of coconut - a powerful dessert beer - $16.99 for this one (750ml) here in CO and well worth it - booze level is noticeable but not overpowering

Served in a snifter glass from a 750ml bottle.
Appearance: Deep dark brown tinted black body. Not as thick and some sediments in the brew which aren't scaring me off. Head is tan and rose subtle rising to roughly half a fingers length off the body.
Smell: Whiskey notes coming off sweet but dissipates quickly from the nostrils.
Taste: Definitely heavy whiskey which comes off touch sweet. I don't notice the coconut but i do taste light coffee and smooth brown sugar.
Mouth: Medium carbonation. Sticky but does not have the heaviest body as I wanted.
Overall: Good brew, but considering how much I paid for it I thought it was going to be better. It's not bad but a slight tweaking and enhancement of the body would make this a gem. Salud!

Fairly mediocre as far as imperial bourbon barrel stouts go - the coconut infusion is subtle enough to have little influence on the overall product... Has typical chocolate malt, barrel wood, and vanilla and coffee-like influences, some drying on the finish, medium-bodied, smooth; moderately bitter and sweet ("bittersweet" lol)... Nothing wrong with it, but nothing particularly special either...
I plan on having one Oil Man version a day, starting with coconut today, coffee tomorrow, and finishing with the vanilla after that, and reviewing them respective to one another as well as to the style...

750ml bottle $16.49? This beer looks just like oil man. Really no coconut or bourbon barrel in the aroma and that is disappointing. Same thing with the flavor, no coconut and no barrel. It is fine as an imperial stout but when I pay $17 and the label says bourbon barrel then I expect some bourbon barrel.

Tar black body, thick, sticky, spongy head; thick sheets of foam adhering to the inside of the glass. Huge charred grain aroma; some malt sweetness; dark roast coffee beans. Milk chocolate and anise flavors; boozy; spicy, suggestions of cinnamon. Heavy, oily body; chewy; sweet offset with an alcohol edge.
I can't say I notice any real coconut presence with this beer, but man-oh-man, what a beast of an imperial stout. The bottle label indicates the beer was aged in bourbon barrels. That element is definitely noticeable, adding a nice depth to things and rounding out the heavy sweetness with just the right note of boozy presence. A fine monster...
