Served on-tap at the brewpub. Pours clear golden yellow with a one finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace on the glass.
Smells of basement must, bit of barnyard funk, lemon zest, dark grapes from the franc, woody oak, bit of spicy/chewy from the base rye and wheat and some more bready pale malt for good measure. Taste has the lemon and musty funk up front with the woody wine barrel and chewy grains bringing up the rear. Smooth, slightly tart feel with some breadiness at the end of each sip.
Overall a nice side spin on the base as well as the...secondary base? 2nd base? Who knows. I get parts of each but none overpower the others. Glad I was able to try it while it was still on.
