Poured from a 32oz growler into my Night Shift tulip glass. Bottled 11/13/13 at the Fallen Apple release party.

Pours a hazy pale golden. A fairly vigorous pour raises a frothy half-finger bone-white head that subsides quickly to a sudsy collar and a thin film atop the beer. Spotty but persistent lacing.

Strong notes of dry Chardonnay appear in the nose--appropriate, given that Art #12 has been Chardonnay barrel-aged--as well as potent freshly-peeled grapefruit, subtle oak and vanilla, and hints of lemon zest. The subtlest suggestion of boozy phenols, comes through as well, but manages to meld well with the overall aroma profile. Lemon, oak, and vanilla notes become more prominent as the beer warms.

On the palate, this beer opens up with powerful notes of freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice, while notes of oak and dry white wine appear mid-palate. Subtle hints of vanilla and lightly toasted coconut appear at the tail end of the mid-palate, while notes of white grape appear on the back of the palate along with a recurrence of the grapefruit flavors, contributing to a dry but fruity finish.

On the tongue, Art #12 is light-bodied, dry, and highly effervescent. Very refreshing, gives no hints of being nearly 9%.

...I gotta say, when Night Shift gets it right they get it really, REALLY right. Art #12 was a treat to drink both on-tap and out of the growler, and I hope to hell they bring it back as a regular addition to their bottled line-up.
