Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a clear golden amber color with a nice billowy white head foam of two fingers. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time to leave a good sum of spiderweb lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a bready and grainy smell. Mixed with these aromas is a little bit of hay and a slight aroma of an herbal hop.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and malty flavor mixed with little bit of a caramel sweetness and some slightly fruity tastes of orange. As the taste advances the malty remains potent with the sweet of caramel growing stronger and being joined by some new fruity tastes of light fruits of a bit of peach and some pear. The fruit never gets too strong, just giving a light backdrop to the flavor. Toward the end, some light hay and a little bit of grain come to the tongue to leave a sorta malty and lightly hopped lager taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is slightly thicker with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the style and slightly bready and sweeter tastes, the feel would have likely been better with a higher carbonation and a lighter body. Overall however it was very much OK.
Overall – A decent lager, although it was a bit sweeter and thicker than I would traditionally want for a more refreshing lager brew. At its 6.2 % abv.it tasted a bit more like an ale then a lager.
