Truth is our barrel-aged imperial stout. Featuring a blend of three standout barrels brewed and barreled in 2018, Truth is the purest expression of barrel-aged beer that we make.

In the glass, we taste potent but balanced flavors of chocolate bourbon candy, sweet vanilla-like oak, Tootsie Rolls, and baker’s chocolate. Though the flavors are intense, they are beautifully balanced making Truth a joy to enjoy and savor as it warms up.

We are proud of this beer, and being the first time we’ve been able to enjoy it in almost five years, we are feeling very nostalgic.

Appearance - the beer was a deep black color that seemed to block out light.

Smell - Notes of chocolate and coffee led the way. There was an underlying current of sweetness.

Taste - The taste profile was focused on vanilla and chocolate. It was sweet and smooth, but not cloying. It had a nice sense of balance and was not overdone.

Mouthfeel - The body was thick and stuck to the tongue and roof of the mouth. This was a sipper.

Overall - This was a nice dessert stout, but not something I could drink in large quantities.

Pours a pure onyx black that swallows all light in its general vicinity and sports a creamy dark tan head that lingers a bit and provides a little lacing. Gorgeous BA Imperial stout.

The nose is led by a big oaky, boozy vanilla aroma that warms your entire environment, and there’s also a rich milk chocolate and some stone fruit as well. Wow.

The barrel leads the taste, with an oak 2 x 4 walloping you between the eyes, quickly followed by booze and vanilla - and maybe a bit of coconut, with the rich milk chocolate and stone fruit on the finish. Magnificent.

The mouthfeel is decadently creamy, perfect for this world class stout.

Pours jet black, very thick from the bottle, no initial head formation before a dark cocoa ring emerges on the edges. No lacing whatsoever. Nose is char, molasses, burnt toast, baker's chocolate, rounder bourbon notes as it warms up a bit, traces of residual sugar. Overall, however, this is very char-forward. Taste has loads of molasses, charred wood, very alkaline raw cocoa powder or extremely dark baker's chocolate. The extreme heaviness of the beer, however, made it challenging to get much more out of it on taste side. It was so coat and heavy like melted ice cream that I felt it blunt its flavors. I wouldn't call this a bad beer, more of an interesting one, but I think the dense mouthfeel got in the way of its finer points.

Black as crude oil with a dark brown head. Pours very thick! Nose is booze, molasses, chocolate and bourbon. Smooth drinking and thick on palate. Chocolate flavors abound on this one. Slight warmth from the ABV.

Patience is often rewarded in most efforts and brewing is no exception. Tree House uses an extended aging regimen into select bourbon barrels for an ultimate and rewarding imperial stout.

Jet black and pouring like thatch, Truth sets an ominous session draped in brandy-like legging, port-like density and espresso austere. Foregoing any froth, the visual weight of the dark ale shares a sultry and robust scent of chocolate, coffee, whisky and peppery booze before slathering the palate with molasses and espresso, baker's chocolate and brownie batter, toffee and vanilla. Balanced with dark roast, burnt toast and peppery hops, the finish reads even more like chocolate covered espresso bean.

Full, lavish and full, the ale is a plump and pleasantly cloying session that demands sharing.
