Tēnā Koutou is a mixed-fermentation Pale Ale with a delightful blend of flavors, aromas, and textures that will transport your senses straight to the beautiful landscapes of New Zealand.
Brewed with a famous duo of New Zealand hops, Nelson Sauvin and Motueka, and fermented with our mixed-fermentation culture, it pours a light orange hue with a fluffy white head. Tropical aromas of white wine, gooseberries, passionfruit, and lime exude from the glass, accompanied by a mild funk in the background.

Pours a golden orange hue. Funk on the nose. This doesn't really display any of the acidity that the previous review of this beer has. It had some funk, peach, pineapple, some white wine. Kind of has some Brett Drie action going on. Super interesting and pleasant to drink.

This is a "mixed fermentation" beer, but the funk it possesses from wild yeast is not a pleasant funk. This beer possesses notes of grass and battery acid, going down with an almost metallic aftertaste that lingers in smell and taste. Maybe it's a personal preference thing, but this combination of tastes seems to result in competing unpleasantries that alternate in doing little acidic dances on the tongue. It touts New Zealand hops, but the hops are buried somewhere in the acidic funk, never having a moment in the spotlight. This doesn't seem to be a standard sour or a standard "pale ale," and points for trying something new. But the chief flavors seem unlikely to appeal to fans of the New England IPAs they do so very well. I am a regular at Tree House. I've now and then had a merely okay beer there. This is the first time I've ended up pouring out the remainder of one of their brews.
