Our interpretation of an Extra Special Bitter carries light bitterness and a gentle earthy noble hop character from Fuggles hops. The hops are balanced by an airy fruitiness and a rich base of flavors evoking caramel malts, brown sugar, and hazelnut. Now aged in French Oak! It is a wonderful and simple beer we find best paired with fish and chips, smoked meat, roasted chicken or, ideally, a day on the river.

On tap at Tree House Brewing Company in Charlton, MA.
This one pours a golden amber color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
There’s a nice woodiness and earthiness on the nose, with that oak enhancement, along with caramel, breadiness, and some tea-like notes.
Old Man is kind of a forgotten beer in the Tree House world, and this is a nice little update and enhancement to an underrated beer. There’s some nice nuttiness to this, with breadiness, and a touch of earthy hop spice.
This is slightly creamy, and very drinkable, with a nice smooth finish.
Adding oak to a bitter is always something that’s gonna perk my ears up.

Good example of the style, smooth and fairly tasty. Really could not detect the effects of oak conditioning however.
