Smoked Raven is a rendition of Raven, our black IPA, crafted with a hint of smoked malt. This addition plays well with the piney characteristics of the classic American hops that give Raven its wonderful flavor and texture. Pouring an enticing, clean pitch, black color into your glass, it carries minor hints of smoke with a chewy hop character that is appealing and delicious. Smoked Raven is our endeavor to explore the bounds of flavor and possibility using classic and simple ingredients within our craft. Enjoy!

Canned on 2/12/24; consumed on 3/27/24
Pours a dark cola hue capped with a finger and a half of creamy, pale beige foam; good head retention leaves a slight yet rich finger of cap, modest, frothy collar, and myriad walling of chunky lacing coating the walls of the glass with ample longevity.
Aromas of light beechwood smoke meet chocolate malt contrasts upfront, with grapefruit underscores fusing with citrus resins over time as a sweeter milk chocolate note lingers.
Taste brings flambéed orange peel contrasting black bread, with tinges of grapefruit over the mid-palate phasing to slight smoke, guava peel, and hints of pine on the back end of the profile.
Mouthfeel offers a medium-light body and a moderate-full fluff of taut carbonation, with flaky texturing atop a glossy resins underscore complimenting an emerging, light roast and twang past the mid-palate into a silky swallow.
An understated cohesion guides what is essentially a New England Black IPA; a deceptively effective combination of silky, resinous textures and subtly smoky roast.

Canned 2/12/24. “Quote The Raven” stamped on the bottom of the can
Raven never was one of my favorite Tree House beers but I still get it from time to time. However, this one is more intriguing. I’ve never seen a smoked Black IPA, so I had to grab this one when I hit Tree House last week. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about
Pours almost completely pitch black with 3 fingers of creamy light tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The smoke is surprisingly gentle in the nose, but it’s balanced wonderfully. I’m picking up on aromas of burnt toast, acrid coffee, earthy hops, smoked bacon, cocoa powder, raisin, brown sugat, light beechwood smoke, and toffee
It favors the bitter notes a bit more in taste but it’s still damn good. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting acrid coffee, burnt toast, leafy hops, black tea, burnt caramel, smoked ham, milk chocolate, and blackstrap molasses. The swallow brings notes of smoked bacon, charred toast, cacao nib, acrid coffee, raisin, earthy hops, brown sugar, and light molasses
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a rich beer. Finishes a tad sticky with a biting bitterness
This one offers more depth than the OG, but I can’t imagine it being for everyone
