Much like the name, this beer is plagued with an ominous past, and we brewed it 3 times before it finally made its way to the public. Dark, hoppy, and with a mind of its own, Gotham has put us through the ringer. If you want to know more (which you should), you can read the whole story on the blog.

Pours a really dark toffee brown with a murky transparency. Head is two fingers of khaki-tan foam. Aroma is toasty, nutty, roasty, caramely, earthy, and bready malts alongside spicy, herbaly, and grassy hops. Malts hit first, but after that it's just a whirlwind of dark malts mixed with zesty, spicy hops. Smell is 'dark', but has an air of evergreen forest to it. Flavor profile is a more quick transition between malts and hops, pinballing between roasty, toasty, nutty, earthy, and caramely malts and grassy, herbaly, and earthy hops. The whirlwind of notes leans dark, but never feels 'heavy', instead ending with a sticky hop residue. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a silty, lightly-gritty texture. Overall, malts and hops are abundant on this, pushing darkness up the nose and onto the palate via the hops, and working to scrub it away with sticky hops.
Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 473mL can.

Deep, dark and mysterious. This brew is absolutely black, and pours with oodles of foamy brown head that lingers and lasts beyond you wildest dreams. Smell and taste-wise, it is char, coffee and chocolate to the extreme, with plenty of piney hops thrown in for good measure. Chewy, thick, and incredibly satisfying, for those who like it this way...

Jet black, 1.5 fingers of tan head, nice lace. Smell is hoppy, juicy citrus and pine, roasty with a touch of smoke, chocolate with grapefruit and orange. Taste is roasty and hoppy, moderate bitterness, citrusy and sort of comes across like a chocolate orange you get at christmas time. Medium carbonation, dry medium-full body. A solid black IPA, not an all time favourite style of mine admittedly but something I would pick up again next time I see it at the brewery.
