He is a ruler, an overlord, a top dog, a crowned head. In the richly varied domain of prokaryotic microorganisms, Jelly King reigns supreme. Rather than choosing between sour or hoppy, we decided to create a beer that would be both at the same time. Showcasing the aromatic benefits of a generous dry hop (Citra, Amarillo, and Cascade), harnessing the pleasing acidity of lactic acid producing bacteria (we use a 5-strain house blend), and coming to a bottle near you without a pesky 2 year slumber in oak, Jelly King is the fermented embodiment of having your cake and eating it too.

Pours a hazy mango colour with a nice head, though only a thin ring of retention. Aroma and flavour are dominated by the Guava, Mango and Passionfruit. Pleasant tartness (mostly from the fruit?). A great brew, perhaps even a top 100 in Canada!

500 mL bottle from the LCBO; dated Apr 8 2022 and served slightly chilled. Listed at 5.6%.
Pours a hazy, translucent golden apricot colour, producing nearly an inch of soapy, foamy white head that dissipates within two minutes or so. A tight collar survives afterwards, encircling a few filmy wisps on the surface; looks about right for the style. Lots of mango on the nose, with added hints of grapefruit, peach and lemon; the guava and passion fruit impart a strong tropical fruit vibe. Mild lacto character with some funkiness, but the fruits are what draw my attention the most.
Big tropical fruit flavours right off the bat: guava comes through for sure, along with passion fruit, peach, grapefruit, lemon and orange. There's a fair bit of lactic acidity, providing a nice, sharp/sour twang that really cuts through the fruitiness on the back end. Not a lot of mango presence, but it does show up toward the finish, which is tart and lemony; guava and passion fruit dissipate into a sour aftertaste that trends dry-ish. Medium in body, with moderately assertive carbonation that feels prickly on the tongue; goes down crisp and smooth, with fantastic drinkability.
Final Grade: 4.3, an A grade. I don't think I'd call Mango, Guava & Passion Fruit my favourite Jelly King, but it's still pretty high up there. Just a spectacular fruited sour - as if you'd expect anything less from Bellwoods - my only real gripe with this beer is that the mango is largely overwhelmed by the other two fruits. Then again, mango is my least favourite of the three, so it's less of a 'gripe' and more of an observation. If you're looking for a superb guava or passion fruit sour, this is the brew for you - I should've picked up a couple more bottles while I had the chance.

Served from the can in a Lagunitas mason jar.
Pours a hazy sunrise gold-orange topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises mild greens and grass floating over passion fruit juice. The taste holds notes of tart grapefruit zest, passion fruit, light mango, light vinegar, and a hint of pine sap. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry, sticky finish. Another interesting sour in this line.

Review from notes. LCBO purchase for $7.50 CDN. Had two bottles of this, both were fresh. Out of retirement temporarily.
Appearance - Hazy yellowy brew with a finger and change of frothy white head. Better than expected staying power for a sour and some spotty lacing.
Smell - There is the general sourness with these beers but all three aromas, mango, passionfruit and guava do make an appearance and the interplay between them is quite striking.
Taste - Mango is king, the guava is there are more noticeable than in most "guava beers" and the passionfruit is a nice tart conclusion. Some light grainy flavors lurk in the background to keep everything together.
Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, very spritzy and finishes with just enough puckering of the lips to be sour, but very well balanced.
Overall - In my mind maybe the second best of the fruited Jelly King brews I've had, I enjoy and respect sours, but they're definitely not my daily drinker. For me to go back for repeated offerings says something about how much I enjoyed this.

A 500ml bottle with no bottled on or best before date. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden orange colour with a two finger white head that dissipated quickly and left pretty much no lacing.
Aroma: Jello fruits, tart, guava, passionfruit, mango with light grapefruit zest and ginger.
Taste: Sour, tart and juicy. Guava, passionfruit, grass, light grapefruit zest and citrus peel.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Another great Jelly King variant from Bellwoods. I’m loving this dry hopping and addition of fruits to the base Jelly King. Just so refreshing.

Another in the Jelly King series, and another success. I find the mango gets a little lost in the mix in this one. It's the passionfruit that shines, with the guava playing a strong rhythm guitar to back it up.
Well worth a drink,I'd recommend this to anyone.
