We decided to kick off a little series of stouts to feature local coffee roasters, and selfishly, to observe the results of different beans in beer. We kept the ABV relatively low, the body chewy and voluptuous, and let the coffee do most of the talking.
Our newest version is made with Sam James Espresso In Bloom (an experimental blend for coffee lovers with a sweet tooth), and it hits all the marks for good body, sweetness, and all-around coffee flavour.

Shockingly great balance for a coffee beer. Great expresso. Glad I drank it fresh, the point being just a great expresso in the base of a stout. No gimmick no excuse must try.

473ml can from the Hafis Road brewery. Packaged on March 9.
A: Opaque jet black hue with a thick mocha coloured cap that dissipates to a thin ring. A few spots of lacing on the glass.
S: Freshly brewed espresso, deep roastiness, strong biscotti notes. A bit smokey, with some dark unsweetened chocolate.
T: Largely follows nose, fairly dry with minimal sweetness.
M: Rich medium-full body, silky smooth, slightly creamy middle, long roasty-drying finish.
O: Another exemplary coffee stout from Bellwoods.
