Two heads, two eyes, four paws, one tail. I have just described to you Double Ratclops, the newest Double IPA to scurry off the canning line. Created by taking the Pale Ale we know and love (and have learned not to leave unsupervised around our chip supply) and upping the scrap-factor to 100, this extra-paranormal big sibling to Ratclops is here to satisfy our collective yen for hoppy, fruity DIPAs with lots of oomph.
Notes of juicy cantaloupe (scraps), blueberries (partially eaten) and hollowed out orange peels!
Allergens: Barley, Oats

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated May 12 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours hazy and turbid, its pale yellow-hued body briefly capped with less than a finger of loose, frothy white head. Within a minute or so, it has been reduced to a thin collar and otherwise barren surface; a tight band of even lace is also left behind. Big mango and cantaloupe aromas, with added notes of orange, juicy peach, passion fruit, flowery hops and berries. Great stuff, and it becomes even more enticing as the glass warms.
Juicy hop flavours burst right out of the gate, with grapefruit and mango figuring in prominently; notes of passion fruit, peach and cantaloupe are also discernible. Citrus, tropical & stone fruit juicy-sweetness continues into the finish with a twinge of syrupy sweetness, reminiscent of a fruit cup; there is some floral, dank bitterness to be found, but it's a second fiddle. Mango and melon linger into the aftertaste, which is acidic and mildly warming. Nearing full-bodied, with moderate carbonation that adds some bite to this brew's smooth, fluffy mouthfeel. For a DIPA, this is dangerously easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 4.13, an A-. I could take or leave Bellwoods' original Ratclops, but this doubled up version is a considerably better beer, at least IMO. Double Ratclops is teeming with juicy, fruity hop flavours, but it's also exceptionally smooth, with little to no sign of that 8% - it's a must-try Ontario IPA, at the very least. The real shocker is that this can is like 7 months old, yet still smells & tastes fantastic - I love fresh IPAs as much as the next hophead, but you can't write old IPAs off just because they're, well, old (especially if they've been kept refrigerated). Of course, I hope to try this fresh at some point, and will do so at the next opportunity.

Pours hay yellow with a smallish head that musters up plenty of lace ridges. The aroma is of stone fruit, cantaloupe and mango. The taste is dripping with tropical, mango, passionfruit hop flavors. Citrus and floral hop elements in the back with a sturdy pale malt cookie dough as a ballast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with creamy, active carbonation. The finish is highly bitter.
This is another fantastic hyper-hopped DIPA from the masters - Bellwoods.

Beer 9/12 from the Durand Haul. Served cold into a tulip. Review from notes.
Appearance - Pretty hazy yellowy gold color with honey brown hues. Quite hazy but not at extreme levels. A finger plus of loose white head and good retention.
Smell - Some citrus, a little dankness, grapefruit, mango and passionfruit maybe.
Taste - More citrus, booze well hidden and grapefruit, mango and passionfruit again. Some greenery at the end.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, a touch boozy, carbonation is middling and dry finish.
Overall - A very solid, but pretty non-descript DIPA my my standards. Everything is well done, tasty and enjoyable, but nothing that blows you away or hasn't been done before. Nonetheless, well worth a tipple if you can find this small batch brew.
