Acid House is a heavily dry hopped hazy IPA with just the right amount of acidity blended in. A newly developed and more efficient souring process allows the IPA component to take centre stage, while the tongue-tantalizing effects of the sour are there to win best supporting actor.

This latest version features Citra and Mosaic hops, which impart notes of Fuzzy Peach, Mimosa, and tropical fruits.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 16 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours hazy and turbid, its body a marmalade golden-orange colour; it's briefly topped with one finger of loose, frothy white head that collapses within a minute or so. A sudsy collar and filmy cap remain, with a decent smattering of lace flung onto the glass. Noticeably sour on the nose; I'm getting hints of lemon yogurt interspersed with grapefruit, mandarin orange, lime and fragrantly floral, perfume-y hops. Wheaty background with hints of grape or gooseberry.

Sweet flavours at the forefront, including mango, oats and bready, wheaty malts; these are soon enveloped by notes of grapefruit, tangerine and passion fruit as the profile develops. Lemon curd and lime juice on the back end, with grassy, floral hops and mild lactic acidity at the finish; citrus and tropical fruits dissipate into a weakly tart aftertaste that doesn't last. Medium-full in body, with moderately assertive carbonation that adds a welcome crispness to this tart, strong pale ale's smooth mouthfeel. Good job masking that 7% abv - I certainly wouldn't have guessed it was that strong.

Final Grade: 4.16, an A-. I have never been big on sour IPAs, but I continue to try them because every once in a while, a brewery absolutely friggin' nails it. I'm hardly surprised that it was Bellwoods who managed to do just that with their Acid House, which has got to be one of the top 3 I've tried so far - easily one of the best you'll be able to find on an LCBO shelf, that's for sure. Highly recommended; I'll be back for more shortly.

Can: Poured a hazy/cloudy yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops undertones with some juicy notes and very faint tart notes. Taste is also a mix of juicy citrusy hops notes with some floral hops undertones and a tingling sour finish. Body is full with good carbonation. Well brewed IPA with sour notes well hidden behind huge hoppy flavors.

An Excellent sour IPA, the sourness is a minor residual. Hops are smooth. This is crusher and not to be missed. No gimmick execution. Can from the source.
