Rather than choosing between sour or hoppy, we decided to create a beer that would be both at the same time. Showcasing the aromatic benefits of a generous dry hop, harnessing the prowess of lactic acidity, and coming to a can near you without a pesky slumber in oak, Jelly King is the fermented embodiment of immediate gratification.
This limited edition Jelly King was dosed with lime juice (for extra zesty acidity), fresh habañero peppers (for a balanced kick of spice), and salt (duh). The resulting heat level is *perfect* — gets your attention but doesn't set your mouth on fire.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated May 14 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours foggy golden-yellow with a modest smattering of sediment swirling about the glass; on the surface, one finger of loose, bubbly white head scatters within ninety seconds. A thin collar lives on, with little else of interest - no cap, and poor lace production. Plenty of lime on the nose, but there's also a pronounced chili pepper spiciness that actually made me sneeze (or maybe I'm just getting a cold, who knows). Hints of vegetal green pepper, wheat, lemon, salt water and moderate lactic funkiness.
It's pretty tasty, and not particularly spicy (if you're worried about that). Salted lime flavours dominate initially, with a fair bit of sour lactic acidity, too; finishes salty, with lemon, lime and chili pepper heat. Lactic acidity fades into the aftertaste, with mild pepper heat lasting on. Medium in body, with average carbonation levels that gently prickle the palate; feels crisp and smooth, with good drinkability for a fruited sour. That chili heat on the back end is what makes this beer: subtle as it is, its absence would've made for a much less interesting quaff.
Final Grade: 4.02, an A-. I'm certain there are plenty of folks who will enjoy Jelly King Spicy Margarita more than I did, and that's because my gripes are primarily preference-related, i.e. I've never ordered a margarita in my life, so this brew has minimal personal appeal. Don't get me wrong, as with any JK, this is still quite good when compared to your average Ontario-made kettle sour... it's just not up my alley. Still, I'd say it's a must-try if you have a soft spot for lime and/or margarita sours.

On tap at The Loose Goose in nearby Windsor. While with my lady Pamela, and a few of my closest friends. My second time having this beer, and first for 2025. Delightful.

473ml can served cold in a pint glass. Canned May 14, 2023. Purchased from the brewery.
Appearance - Hazy golden brew with two fingers of sparkling and long lived white head.
Smell - Leafy aroma with some sour notes and wheaty backing. More leafy than other Jelly Kings.
Taste - Some earthy dankness, some sour and then a plentiful amount of heat. Getting some boozy vibes initially and the spiciness at the end is great.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, with plenty of heat. Carbonation is middling.
Overall - Not a beer to have multiple of, but excellent heat, enough sourness. I don't get a huge amount of margarita vibes but the spicy and sour is very nice.
