An IPA is a series that acts as a creative outlet for all things IPA from Oss.

An APA is a sister series of sorts, with certain hoppy similarities in a lighter vehicle.

This batch is hopped with Idaho 7, New Zealand Cascade & Motueka for major cotton candy, Sprite, and cedar bough vibes.

473 mL can shipped from the brewery; dated Jan 30 2024 and served slightly chilled.

Pours cloudy and turbid, its pale straw yellow-hued body crowned with one finger of bubbly, soapy white head that lasts for two or three minutes. A wide collar of frothy suds sticks around, with a decent ring of lace deposition - looks alright. Citrusy, tropical aromas of papaya, lemon zest, pink grapefruit juice and orange, with hints of ripe stone fruit, lime and floral, herbal hops. Juicy and enticing.

A solid hazy pale ale: I'm getting citrusy notes of grapefruit and lemon peel initially, joined by flavours of apricot, papaya and lime zest. It finishes with grapefruit, floral/resiny hops and black tea bitterness that dissipates into a citrus peel aftertaste, followed by a dry conclusion. Medium in body, with moderately lively carbonation that adds a pleasant prickliness to this brew's smooth, soft mouthfeel. Easily knocked back, but too strong, hoppy and acidic to be a realistic session choice.

Final Grade: 4.05, a worthy A-. I've only got good things to say about An APA with Idaho 7, NZ Cascade & Motueka - this is a set of highly complementary hops that result in a cohesive, aromatic and flavourful pale ale. Citrusy first and foremost, with tropical and resiny facets that provide welcome depth to the experience - really tasty, and a real pleasure to quaff. Bellwoods has undoubtedly produced better hoppy pale ales, but this is a quality one that I'd encourage other BAs to try.
