Thanks to Coronaeus for sending me this beauty in a surprise attack in NBS BIF #15.
Deepest brown with a loosely packed head that rises two fingers and quickly settles to a thin sandy ring. Slight lacing.
Nose is a fun little path that winds between lush, warm cognac sweetness and a hint of peppery rye barrel layered on top of some chocolate notes.
Flavor goes deeper. This gem is profound in its commitment to dive into the barrel notes without losing the base characteristics. The chocolate notes and gentle roast are there for sure but the warm, gentle sweetness of orange blossom, toffee, vanilla, and toffee chime in elegantly. As it warms, a hint of char and peppery spice and oak saunters in.
Mouthfeel is warm, a tad chewy, and the mild sweetness tapers off a bit on the back end.
