Tea-Loc is a Black Tea Saison, brewed in collaboration with our fellow Tucson brewers at Ten Fifty Five. The majority of the grist is made up of a blend of French Pilsner and Pale malt, with a smidge of flaked barley, honey malt, and Vienna malt for good measure. US Goldings hops provide a balancing bitterness; while locally harvested Meyer lemon and South Indian Black Tea (from Maya Tea Co) lend a brightness and body. It is fermented with a classic French Saison yeast.

Poured a cloudy golden yellow with a quarter finger white head. Quite nice looking, very true to style. Scents of apricot, Belgian yeast, some citrus and a bit of grain. A very fruit forward, apricot-rich, yet rather traditional saison aroma. Very nice. Flavor begins with sour, fruity, yet dry apricot, moving into some spicy and earthy yeast flavors with a bit more light sourness. A good bit of white pepper is present in the background. Finishes dry, with white pepper, grain and sour apricot notes. Aftertaste is grainy with notes of white pepper. A good classic saison flavor profile, hitting the peppery, yeasty, fruity and dry flavors. Very well done. Mouthfeel is light bodied, juicy yet semi-drying on the finish with a bit of prickly carbonation. A good saison mouthfeel, true to style. Overall this is an excellent saison that is very true to the style guidelines and quite refreshing to drink. It hits all the aroma and flavor notes perfectly and is aided by a nice mouthfeel.

Pours a hazy pale golden color with some orange warmth and a tight, white head that leaves rings of lacing.
Smells of floral and slightly funky yeast notes mostly with some grain to it.
Tastes of the floral notes with some herbal notes and grainy sweetness. Floral and herbal notes lead off with not much bitterness. Grainy sweetness comes through in the middle, but with a light touch. This fades into a little yeast funk before a small wave of tea notes comes through. Finishes with a bit of lingering tea and grain. The profile is put together well, but it is on the light side.
Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly frothy amount of carbonation.
Overall, this is a nicely put together saison. It is on the light side, and the yeast character doesn't match the classic examples of the style. But neither of those things make it a bad beer by any means and I it is worth a drink.
