The three reviews are all quite different... so I'll offer a new perspective.
Doss Blockos is a simple, flavorful lager. And as someone who does not like lots of hops, I thought Doss Blockos was very balanced. Would I have it again. No. A bit pricey for simple.

Dos Blockos appears to be a lager of character and, dare I assume, flavour too. This 'pale-ish', coppered complexion suggests a greater malt bill in terms of both quantity and quality than what we're used to in big commercial brands. And I'm guessing that's exactly what this craft brewer had in mind.

Whoever believes pale lagers can't be flavourful is foolish. This aroma has all the biscuity and toffee-like notes as well as the resiny, earthy hoppiness of a pale ale (and then some). A few weeks in a lager tank has removed any other elements that might distract from these wonderful qualities. Definitely don't assume this lager to be some mindless, watery swill - expect lots of flavour and some bite to it too!

East 9th claims that this "has been stripped bare of anything but the essential taste we could ream from the specialty pale malt and cascade hops". Exactly! That's what a lager should do: singularly showcase it's star two ingredients (hops and malt is better than just malt). Just a spotlight of the simple, wholesome purity of sweet, caramelly malt and leafy, pungent hops.

Though practically an IPA in flavour, Dos Blockos is very much a lager in mouthfeel. Despite its prominent bitterness - and the wave of malty sweetness that washes over it - the finish is dry and little if any taste sticks around; all those IBUs and cara-malts disperse as if they're running from something. There's a party in your mouth one minute, then all of a sudden it's like the cops showed up.

I'm less surprised by the amount of both hoppy and malty flavour these Aussies jammed into a lager and more so by how much they've crammed into a 4.6% beer. Over in this part of the world everyone is tripping over themselves to make a "Session IPA" (a silly term to begin with) but apparently it's yet to occur that a hoppy/malty *lager* is even more easy to drink. Dos Blockos is certainly that.

Bottle: standard brown 330mL bottle with a pretty tacky-looking craft label. Looks like they attempted to make it look 'artsy' - but it looks shit.

Appearance: pours a light golden yellow with a small, half-centimetre white head and no real lacing. Looks fine, but not special.

Aroma: a touch of sweet malts with some banana and faint spicy hops. Very faint aroma, however.

Taste: again, light sweet grains and some spicy hops. Nothing exciting at all, really. And considering the price, that is unacceptable.

Aftertaste: follows from the initial taste - very faint. But that's fine - it's a lager, so it's meant to be sessional and refreshing.

Mouth feel: the carbonation is not quite high enough for a lager, as though they expected the flavour to carry itself through. But the reality is that it really needs a bit more bubbles to carry what flavour there is across.

Overall: a fairly ordinary lager dressed in the fake tinsel of boutique. It is AU$72 a case of 24 x 330mL - I could hardly believe it when I saw the price tag, considering the unexciting nature of the beer. The price is insulting.

A - Pours a copper colour with small white foamy head that dissipates to a thin film

S - Not very pronounced but do get a little light sweet malt, grainy and a little metallic

T - Get a little malt, slight herbal and floral hops, grainy taste up front with a horrible metallic, dry and bitter finish at the end almost like dirty muddy water

M - Light bodied and medium carbonation

O - Very ordinary beer that I struggled to finish. Lacks in everything.
