(12 oz can, of course no date/code; purchased single off shelf at Joe Canal's 73 a few days ago... poured into a fat tulip)

L: dark brown liquid; coffee w/ creme brown foam... head settles out to barely a collar soon enough... no lace, no legs

S: innertube, espresso, dark chocolate, Devil's Food cake... subtle cone of booze pointing up through the middle... pretty potent intensity, if muddled in its expressions

T: espresso, chocolate ginger snap (sort of sans ginger), clean ethanol... certainly bold roasted nut and barley tones by the second sip... lots of roast, little bitterness, but also little sweetness... hints of molasses and ash... mmm, that dead, dirty grain juice

F: relatively light-medium bodied, with very little residual viscosity... wait, whoops!... lacking lively carbonation, a mild drag does develop, but never achieves roundness or slickness... the glow/shine of booze is mellow but apparent from the onset

O: solid brew, but not in the class of the most distinctive examples I've sampled... owing to my inclinations, I believe I would definitely get this on draft or maybe get another can on a whim (1943)

Two twelve ounce cans have been emptied into a clear glass liter mug. The look says "Baltic Porter". It's black coffee dark brown with a short-lived orange-brown head. There's good carbonation and a certain brightness to the look. The aroma is of sweet roasted malt and a little alcohol. The mouthfeel is reasonably smooth as it delivers a sweet roasted malt flavor with hints reminiscent of black licorice. OK, it's not among the best, the mouthfeel is just a little thin for that. As nicely as it's flavored, there's not much depth to keep it intriguing. But this is very good and certainly worth a try. The alcohol detected by the nose seems almost absent to the taste. There's no glass lacing, but that really doesn't matter here. Although priced a little higher in comparison with some of the other offerings from this brewery, this was well worth it.
