Pours a brownish copper color with honey edges and a finger of beige head. The nose has notes of rye bread with a touch of dankness. The rye spice also figures prominently in the flavor profile. The finish blends snappy rye notes with modest hop bitterness.

(12 oz can, date Nov 2022?; 'red rye India pale ale'; pulled can out of sixer at State Line... poured into my Trillium fat tulip)
L: dark, somewhat opaque (possibly sooted with sediment) ruby-colored liquid; tall, tight, dimpled sponge of pearl white foam... misty cap cover never abates
S: red-purple berry juice, spicy hop accent, toasted rye bread crust, peppery floral flourish... incredibly potent expressions; bready-er as it goes
T: vinous, or almost pomegranate-like juicy core up front, finished off by pine-sappy hop resins and a peppery-herbal (wormwood-menthol?) bitterness up the middle... the berry and peppery (argula-like) bitterness persists in the aftertaste, crusty brown bread notes lingering up front and just to the sides a bit... spicy, almost clove/allspice essence... lightly-lusicous grainy maltiness, doughy rolls mid-flow
F: luscious, silky rolls... the hop buzz and hint of ethanol provide minty coolness and subtle sting to the front mouth, opens up the nasal passages... relatively light and lifting; soft afterburn; leaves an impression
O: I don't know how this flew under my radar, as well as the Ruthless Rye I atumbled across the same day... this has a similar hop profile to regular JAWN, but with an expertly-measured malt bill at its base... more please (2077)

Dark ruddy brown with a finger-and-a-half of khaki head. Solid retention and okay lacing.
Sweet aroma of orange blossom, tangerine and plum with a bit of dusty cocoa behind.
The taste follows closely. Maybe a hint of coffee in the mix as well. Moderate earthy bitterness and some rye spiciness in the aftertaste.
Soft, lightly creamy mouthfeel with tight, restrained carbonation.
I was expecting a little more bitterness and maybe some pine, but still quite tasty.

It begins with the attempt to fit two twelve ounce can's contents into a clear glass liter mug. Initially, there's a little too much foam, but eventually it all fits. Now, there's a beige head atop a dark caramel colored liquid. The aroma is of a grassy IPA, just what should be expected. The taste is good. The rye adds another taste layer, without making it too grassy. Of course, the rye mutes the bitterness of the hops, but that's what it's supposed to do. The glass lacing is commendable, as is the overall taste. The body is a bit thin and that hurts the overall. Still, a nice rye IPA, with a modest body and slight hop bite at the finish.
