Behold, our original Barrel-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Deth’s Tar, with hand-split whole vanilla beans. Flaked and malted oats lend a supremely silky body that belies the beer’s considerable strength. Pronounced vanilla flavor and aroma blends harmoniously with chocolatey caramel maltiness and blend of American & French oak. Enjoy now or store cold.

Pours black in color, with tan colored head. Aroma is vanilla bean, bourbon, dark cocoa. Similar taste, but very smooth. Thick full bodied but silky mouthfeel.

Vanilla Deth pours black, with a small tan head. The aroma has a nice, strong vanilla bean note. The flavor has notes of whiskey and barrel, and a subtle, well-integrated vanilla flavor. Good feel. Overall, a great stout, with a great amount of vanilla flavor.

Black color with a medium-sized beige head. The aroma offers chocolate, roasted malt, and a touch of vanilla. The flavor is soft and moderately sweet, finishing with warming bourbon notes that round everything out.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated 9-12-25 into a snifter at 51 degrees F.
ABV- 13.5%
Appearence- Black, opaque, dark brown frothy head, above average head retention and lacing, high amount of alcohol legs on the glass wall.
Aroma- Bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, coconut, oak, high strength of scent.
Flavor- Bourbon, coconut, vanilla, cocoa, oak, highly sweet, spiciness that builds as you drink, high strength of flavor.
Mouthfeel- Medium body, slightly below average carbonation, moderately boozy, highly sweet, moderately bitter, silky, mildly mouth coating, moderately mouth warming, moderately spicy.
Overall- Black and opaque with above average head retention and lacing. The bouquet was a complex and strong mix of bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, coconut and oak. The flavor followed the nose, but the coconut was more evident in the flavor. The coconut likely accounts for the level of sweetness this beer had. The body was thinner than desired, and it didn't have much mouth coating property, but it's silkiness was a nice attribute. Also, the bitterness and presence of spice helped to balance the sweetness. Overall, this was a complex, aromatic and flavorful beer that delivered an interesting and enjoyable drinking experience. While this was a great beer it was not as good as the base Deth's Tar it is derived from.

Thanks to Ozzylizard for this gem.
Pours a deep, dark burnt leather. Bright light shows a glimmer of amber tinge to the extreme edge. Khaki colored head forms a solid, nearly 2 inch, head that hovers for a minute and slowly settles in at a filmy ring. Scattered splotches of lacing.
Nose pumps caramel, Bourbon, cocoa, vanilla and some char. Really an elegant delivery of these aromas.
Flavor is very aligned to the nose. The cocoa, vanilla, and char really move in synch. The vanilla level is definitely there but not overpowering. (Caveat: I don't like strong vanilla). I like this one a lot.
Mouthfeel is medium, carbonation level is just active enough to keep it alive, and feels almost creamy.

I’ll tell you one thing: if I am coming into my reward, having a Vanilla Deth as a last sip wouldn’t be all that bad. What’s wild is how light it feels given its high abv. Yeah, if I went ten rounds with one of those Paul dorks, I could sip this to get hydrated after I KO they ass.

Well, wouldn't expect less...
Perfect pour. Deep deep brown color. Huge tan head that slowly dissipates.
I would have like to smell a bit more vanilla on the nose, but it was there.
Smooth to drink and great vanilla flavors. Not too much, but very present, especially as it warms up.
Another (expensive) outstanding beer.

Appearance: Pours pitch black with a khaki film that fades to a collar; leggy, with a few streaks of lacing
Smell: Milk chocolate and cookie dough with hints of coffee and Bourbon and, of course, a strong dose of vanilla
Taste: Oatmeal chocolate cookie dough forward with the vanilla flavors pronounced; hints of coffee and Bourbon, after the swallow, cut through some of the sweetness but this still leans in a much sweeter direction than the others in this series I have tasted
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet
Overall: The Deth series has been hit or miss for me but this is not among my favorites, for sure

Jet black with a weak tan head. Aroma is toffee, vanilla, and oak. Taste is similar but with hints of coffee and bourbon. I like that the barrel is fairly understated. As the beer warms, it improves and there's some light berry taste to it. Body is medium.
The first few sips I was not that impressed but had the good sense to let it warm, and that made all the difference.

Pours jet black with a medium thick tan head. Nose is bourbon and you guessed it vanilla. Taste is somewhat coffee, somewhat vanilla and somewhat bourbon. All flavors meld together just fine. Noce warmth from the ABV.

L - pitch black with a tan head that sticks around a bit and leaves behind a thin cap
S - dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, some oak. The smell is good but could be stronger
T - rich dark chocolate brownie up front and throughout, intermixed with notes of caramel, oak, and of course, vanilla - though the vanilla is well done and not heavy handed. Very slight bourbon.
F - the lighter side of full bodied with low carbonation. Smooth, somewhat sticky
O - a really well done BBA stout with vanilla that keeps the original chocolate dominate, Deth's character, while being it's own thing

2025 edition: pours pretty flat into glass, nose of strong vanilla, chocolate and some spirit fumes, taste follows with a quite strong vanilla presence, chocolate, coffee, sweet & tangy on the tongue, swallow a vanilla bittersweet.
nice for a sipper - certainly not a bender - it sure is jam-packed with taste; but i may have preferred the more tempered subtlety found in the Dragon's Milk 'Madagascar Vanilla' Reserve of yore.

10/13/25 - (Home) (Chicago, Illinois) Can Notes: Obtained a four pack via my Revolution Season Ticket. 12 oz canned 9/12/25 @8:09:51 AM. 13.5% ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with vanilla. A Tapestry of vanilla and oak. Revolution Beer LLC, 3340 N. Kenzie, Chicago, Illinois.
Appearance: Pitch black base, creamy dark tan head lingers over the whole base before.leaving a creamy ring around the rim, spotty coverage of slow rising tiny carbonation bubbles above the base and no lacing. 4.5
Aroma: Sat this for ten minutes, vanilla front and center backed by cinnamon not included in the listed ingredients. Both remained unchallenged after another ten minutes, the barrel hopefully comes out taste wise. Very strong vanilla, though I am sensitive. 3.75
Taste: Twenty minutes of warming yields a broader range of different flavors. Chocolate Fudge first take, vanilla follows, getting a sweet Jim Beamesque whiskey and powdered cinnamon we poured on toast as kids. I’m wincing after my first few sips at the sweetness level of this one with my sweet averse preferences, but this settles in at the 30 minute mark with a sweet but better bourbon, the vanilla dialed back to more proper treatment. 3.5
Mouthfeel: Bursts with sweetness, though vanilla barrel aged beer fans on average will likely find this more balanced than these notes. Drinks sweet more than strong, still wincing at times but I guess more like a frog acclimated to boiling water as I hit the half way mark. Vanilla sweet bourbon prancing about like they are in a Columbus Day parade. 2.75
Overall: This is a variant not in my wheelhouse, which is why I held off on prior releases, but it’s in the season ticket, so here I am. Vanilla fans should like this, I’ve had heavier handed vanilla treatment, but this is not one I’d go out of my way based on my personal preferences. Still is consistent with what was advertised and style expectations. Just not a flavor profile for me, which this overall score represents. 3.25
