Black currants provide a lively tartness and soft sweetness to our barrel-aged imperial oatmeal stout, Deth’s Tar. Chocolate and roast from malt, vanilla and graham from oak and bourbon, and complexity from our English yeast, create the perfect base.

Black in color with no light penetration. There’s a fingernail of creamy brown around the rim and covering two thirds of the top. The aroma is of sweet, dark malt and tart currants. I’m tasting a fantastic balanced blend of sweet, dark malt and somewhat tart currants. The mouth is thick, sticky, and warm with alcohol.

Thanks to Rug for sending this surprise.
The nose has a strong tartness upfront. The currant starts off firmly before allowing the traditional notes to come in: caramel, cocoa, char, and dates.
Again, the tartness starts off, firm but not overpowering. Currant, cherry, almost a hint pomegranate. Charred caramel, cocoa, dates, raisin, earthy charred wood, and eventually it comes back on the finish to a tart finish.
Fairly full with decent carbonation and a gentle warmth.

There is so much going on in this beer. It's your standard Deth's Tar but with an extra layer of fruitiness and tartness that is of equal intensity as the "stout" part of the beer. In readily complex, but one that purists may find hard to accept.

Coffee, bitter chocolate, sweet malt and a bitter medicinal fruity flavor. Overall, average. Have definitely had better fruited stouts. Moutfeel is medium thick which was appreciated.

Canned 9/23/22
Obviously I had to visit Revolution when I was in Chicago for the weekend, and I brought home a 4 pack of this. I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while but never see it locally, so I’m excited to see what it’s all about. Let’s dive right in
Pours completely pitch black with 2 fingers of frothy light tan head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose has a great tartness from the currants balancing out the sweeter notes. I’m picking up on aromas of black currant, cacao nibs, burnt caramel, raisin, sweet whiskey, vanilla, toasted oak, and tart cherry
The balance is honestly even better in taste, there’s a great bite to it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting dark chocolate, black currant, tart cherry, burnt caramel, milk chocolate, brown sugar, toasted oak, raisin, vanilla, and molasses. The swallow brings notes of tart cherry, black currant, cacao nib, charred oak, earthy bourbon, medium roast coffee, raisin, light molasses, and dark toast
A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry with a touch of boozy heat
Surprising absolutely no one, Revolution killed it again. More fruited Deth variants please

Muddled melted dark brown with purple-ish brown edges under a short tan foam head.
The roasty, ashy, splintery and nutty nose is starkly contrasted by the sharply tangy currant acid on the slightly viscous palate.
It's a bit of a mindfuck moreso than other fruited stouts, but overall seems fairly enjoyable, though a bit dryly oxidized, with slight notes of cardboard within the old oak.

Had some trepidation but this really works. The currants are prominent, slightly tart and berry like, coming across as juicy and genuine. They allow a little room for lightly boozy, decadently chocolatey base stout to peek through, but this very fruit forward. Another fantastic offering from Revolution.
