A beer worth losing your head over. Our interpretation of a classic Belgian-Style Saison has a bold yet enticing bouquet of earthy aromas. Commanding notes of spice and grated citrus rind lead to a complex, dry finish.

Home (Chicago, Illinois) - 5/16/26 Can Notes: Purchased four 16 oz cans at Revolution Brewery for $13.41 including tax on May 2, 2026. Canned 4/22/26 @ 12:52:35 PM. Coup D'Etat, Belgian-Style Saison Ale, 8.0% ABV. Brewed by Revolution Beer LLC, 3340 N. Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

Appearance: Poured about 3/4 of the can into a large tulip, yielding a bright white bubbly head, nice golden yellow orange base with heavy sustained carbonation. Soapy lacing and a cover over the entire base. Enticing. 4.25

Aroma: Really nice funky aroma, citrus, lemon, coriander spices all blend well. Strong in both potency and enjoyment. 4.5

Taste: More focused than the aroma, citrus and lemon the stars, not as funky but still a bit more than typical for the style. 4.0

Mouthfeel: Drinks easier than the 8.0% ABV listed today. Medium sweet body, sustained gentle to lightly prickly carbonation. Hops used bring some bitterness to balance the sweet flavors. Citrus and lemon all day through the finish. 4.25

Overall: This is a solid Belgian-Style Ale, funky, nice consistent citrus and lemon. Well brewed, glad I picked up a four pack. 4.0

Almost fully opaque, sandy dark amber with a very large, overly active foam head that settles ever so slowly to an uneven blanket leaving thick lumps of spongy lace all over the glass.

Smell is apple, pear and light phenolic clove-like spice with hints of astringent hops, bread dough and caramel cubes.

Taste too brings the apple-pear combo, almost like softened apple pie without the cinnamon, but with an unfinished crust and a touch of clove and sweet corn.

Body is medium-light with crisp carbonation and a semi-dry finish.

Pours an orange tinged hazy golden color. Thin white head dissipates leaving little lacing.

Smell has aromas of lemon, orange zest, biscuit malt, straw, and slight ester notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of lemon, orange zest, a nice biscuit malt background. Undertones of straw, pepper, and clove peak through.

Feel is light, crisp and refreshing.

Overall a very nice albeit not outstanding saison. Solid choice anytime you want a saison.

Lemon-orange color. Weakish head with little lacing. Yeasty, funky, lemon, citric aroma. Flavor follows with a delicate, bready malt backbone and plenty of citrus and yeast funk. Medium body with a grainy, yeasty texture. Somewhat weak carbonation. Pretty good overall.

Pours a nice golden color with a decent sized off white head.

Kind of a grassy and floral smell. There is a bit of lemon in there as well. Basically a fairly earthy and outdoors type of smell.

Sweet and fruity at first. Bit of apricot and pear notes, finishing with some lingering hop bitterness.

Fairly good feel going down, bit high on the carbonation.

A fairly decent example of the style, although not the best i have tried. It does tend towards the sweet side, but I would have liked a bit more complexity. The hops do keep things in check and from getting too sweet. Definitely worth trying, but there are better examples of the style out there.
